My VSS snapped in half!!!

I was driving normal (cruising at about 35mph) to go to my good friend's funeral todya and all of a sudden I hear this clicking sound and the speedo drops to zero. Pull over and pull the speedo cable out of the vss, pull forward a lil and it still clicks. So, I drove it home and got in my jeep and proceeded with my day. Got home after work and took the vss out and the gear locked up and snapped the housing apart. The clicking sound was the frozen gear being forced to "tap" against the drive gear that it reads from. :o

Here's some pics of the carnage. Has this happened to anyone before? Luckily I was like 1 mile from my house when it happened.

the gear doesnt move, it will just happen again. For now, I stuck a electic vss in there to block the hole. I have a gsr cluster I WAs gonna put in the crx, but I didnt want to do it this soon. Can anyone who drive a crx with a ls swap or even an ls teg, tell me what rpm is st 35 and 45 mph? I know 55 and 70...I was just making sur eof those the other day for the hell of it...

its going to depend on what gear your in. i drove my civic with my spedo working on and off for a quite a while. i remembered all the rpms, gears, and speeds. the low speeds were hard to remember though because i was always in different gears

weird. my car has been doin some strange ---- lately. check engine light randomly comes on every few days yet it throws no code. and my speedo stops working everynow and then. what could cause the speedo to stop, theres no clicking noise or anything like that when it happens. im hoping its just a loose wire.

I believe the D series should work for you, I have a busted VSS if you have and use if you can swap shafts the housing is good top of the shaft is broke where the cable attached...i don't know if your gear/shaft is good...Did you have an fluid in it, my friend and i were wondering about that when we did my swap...teg have power steering fluid runing throw it I assume to lubricate it and since I don't I have PS I just looped the hose and dumpted some PS fluid in it...but Electric vss don't and D series don't? :-\

I have a b20 with a ls tranny and when i go 45mph my rpm is at around 2200. At 50 mph im at 2500 while in 5th gear of course. Hope this helps.
