Ha ha... my next door neighbor thought that Stealthmode and TunerToys are now selling this tool cart. Got it from Harbor Freight for $25. :D

Re: My tool cart

I got one about 5 min from work, and it's about 30 minutes from home. So I usually think what I need first then go get it after work, before working on the cars. But I love it, if you need a cheap tool to do something one time, is the place to go.

Example: Taking the fuel rails of the WRX, you can't get a rachet in there, you can't get a regular wrench in there. I tried for about 4 hours, not kidding. I was to a point about to give up. All it took was a trip to HF, for 90 degrees angle wrenches, about $7.99 and the stupid fuel rails where out in 5 minutes. There's nothing like feeling stupid for not going before to the store, and wasting all that time for nothing.

Never again, if I need something, drop everything and go and buy the right tool.

Re: My tool cart

550, the mac, matco, and cornwell carts (like shown in pic) are all made in taiwan by the same manufactor. The only thing different about them is the handles slightly. I use to have a 650 dollar matco cart, but this one is actually better.

For the fulltime mechanic I can see spending $600+ for a cart. The Weekend mechanic can do fine with the $25 one......Mine was free, don't even know the brand, but I think it's a HF special....got it as work payment from a wholesale warehouse.

HMT-Admin 05-25-2006 05:24 PM

Re: My tool cart

no way carts are badass even for the backyard mechanics, I wouldnt spend 500+ on one for home, but there are some pretty nice ones for 100-150ish, single drawer and closing top. It just makes things easy at the end of the day, just throw all your tools in the top and lock it up.

This cart is waayyy better than what I had before...... 3 old cardboard boxes, duct taped around so it wouldnt split. Whenever this cart starts falling apart, I will weld them focker together. I just dont see myself spending that much for a cart yet....not until I move to a house. My garage is more of a storage than a place to do work on a car anyway.
