For iso-octane based fuels the general trend is that the higher octanes burn slower. There are certain additives that accelerate combustion without adversely affecting octane too much... it is possible to have a couple different flavors of 110-112 octane with widely disparate burn rates by blending 116/118 and accelerants... some of those burn rates comparable to pumpgas.

Higher octane -rated iso-octanes tend to atomize and burn poorly, accelerants help bust apart the larger droplets for lower temperature/lower speed combustion events that cause problems in some cars, aka idle.

No, they have a controlled combustion. No fuel is injected until its needed and the combustion follows the fuel injection. You don't have a cylinder full of fuel that just goes off instantaneously.
