my race weekend
I was at the track/airstrip this weekend. I was running on slicks did about 4 burnouts showing off for the cameras
when I got to the start line my clutch was gone, I launched at 7000rpm killed my oponent on the launch, but when I shift to 2nd I redlined, 3rd same 4th same,5th same, I never experienced clutch slippage so I went 2 more times. 3rd try the car would not drive, and engine redlining. turned the clutch is fried since the track go up a slight hill I got pushed the rest of the way ;D I was using exedy stage 2 3 puck clutch. obx lsd, road racing slicks, all that left of the clutch is the center hub, almost brand new clutch. I killed it at 20psi on a ls/vtec sc61 turbo. I replaced the clutch with a stock one to get me home, but I cant accelerate too fast the stock one slips at only 10 psi. so now I am trying to fingd the best clutch I can use under $500 |

Re: my race weekend
i wonder why the clutch never slipped on the highway doing 165mph pulls?

but now the stock one is slipping like hell, I cant accelerate fast, I have to press on it lightly to not slip. |

Re: my race weekend
ACT would be my choice.
|
Re: my race weekend
I am leaning towards ACT, or another exedy stage 2 with the thick disc, I had the thin one.
|
Re: my race weekend
How much power are you pushing approx....I have a Exedy Stage 2 with the thick disc on the WRX, I had the same problem with my factory clutch. Mine's been holding perfect up to 22 psi of abuse and about 360hp at the flywheel..........

Re: my race weekend
ACT exterm pressure plate with puck disc of ur choice.

but really I dont blame it on the clutch, I blame myself for showing off, just need something affordable that will hold up. I need to sell some ----. express sale |
Re: my race weekend
for the record, it doesnt matter how much horsepower you put through a clutch. The torque is what makes it slip... thats why they have torque ratings.
|
Re: my race weekend
True I know that, well if it helps the WRX produces 305 lb/ft torque to the wheels, plus the AWD loss, it's probably around 340 maybe 350 at the crank, that's probably more than the Honda engine, even at 400whp. :-*

I dont remember what they are called off of the top of my head. but they are the bands the are riveted to the outer housing.. they ALWAYS break if you use a 6 puck and smash on it hard..
|
Re: my race weekend
I always thought it was wierd that they riveted the pads on the clutch disc, thats why I think exedy is better

Re: my race weekend
What happened to LSD, why hasnt he chimed in? ???

Re: my race weekend
mikes clutch took a 400whp beating from me and never slipped.

I'm talking about the pressure plate. the bands in them snap all of the time, right by the rivets... and their disc's fall apart too, but that doesn't happen as much. |
Re: my race weekend
get one from mike

Re: my race weekend
Exedy twin disc can be had in the $750 range if you ask around.
Most of the twin disc setups (except OS Gikken) are repackaged Helix units. *hint hint* |

I also need a flywheel my aluminum one needs new pads, I have a stock one but I wanna go lighter, I can get get a ACT STAGE 3 with a 9.7 lbs chromoly flywheel for $517, I think thats a great deal for a good clutch. I want to make 450-500whp, and I want clutch that will support the torque that comes with that maybe 350wtq on a ls/vtec |
