My quad project...with pics, sorry no turbo :p *lil update*

Well guys this evening I started on my quad project. I have a 350 warrior but was unhappy with it. So i traded my father for his honda 250x.

Anyways I'm stuffin my dad's dirt bike engine in it...he used the bike for ice racing. Its a 360 bored 110 over with a weisco piston, milled head, port & polished, stronger rod, larger carb etc.... Anyways I'm hoping it will be a nice sand dune monster when I'm done.

Here are the pics

1987 Honda 250X frame

This is the 360 Yamaha motor.... I cut the frame on the bike a few years ago to save it. I was going to put it on a gokart originally

Well the engine is in the frame. The very rear bottom bolt lined up perfectly but the other mounts I will have to alter. I had to remove the carb, a spark plug and the chain guard just to fit it in. Its a tight squeeze, when I'm done just to change the plugs I'll have to remove the gas take. I suppose I'll make it hinge with a wing nut on one end for an easy lift or something....

Ok, here's the problem. The engines sprocket sets in about an inch and a half from where it needs to. I'm either going to have to move the mounts over or extend the sprockets shaft somehow. I beleive I'll try to extend the shaft first since the engine already mounts nicely where it is....

I was really expecting it to fit as easily as it did. The task should be easier then expected. When its finished I will swear that its a 250X... stock ;)

I know its probalby common to most but I'm enjoying doing this. My dad is excited to see his old race bike engine fired up again...and to up my life insurance along with it.

Haha, I just saw this post. I dig it. I want to do some hybrid action to something, I just don't know what yet. ???

If you extend that front sprocket out too far it might compromise the integrity of the shaft. I'm sure it will at least blow the seal eventualy. It might be a bitch, but you're better off moving the motor over a bit. :-\

You're going to clean that motor up a bit before you fire it up right? It looks like a small forest inside the intake. :o

Also, you might want to shave the "Yamaha" off the side of it. ;)

Yeah I was thinking the same thing about the shaft...I thought it may even bend. I can move the sprocket on the spline out about 3/4 of an inch with a spacer on the back of it. Then I'll try to move the rear sprocket in a lil bit and see if i cant "compromise" something. If that doesnt work I'll start making all new brackets. I was just so happy that it fit like it did that I wish not to change it.

Yes of course I'm going to clean the engine. Once I get it fit up correctly I'll remove it and clean it all up. I'm not shaving the yamaha anyways though, I'm more of a yamaha guy then a honda boy anwyays.

that reminds me heh heh heh my and my friends are putting a 650cc motor cycle motor on a go-kart lol it is going to haul ass if we ever get it done, also we have to make sure we dont kill ourselves cause we aremaking a custom frame and everything. when it is done though it will be cool.
