how is the framerails right behind the cab going towards the axle? #1 rustout issue with the '86 trucks

When I picked it up, I drained 7-8 quarts of milky foamy fluid from the oil pan. I filled it with new oil, topped off the rad. and it ran like a kenyan.

No frame rust on this truck whatsoever. Farm trucks in Rural ND FTMFW. :8

I dont think hes worried about rust on a $400 winter beater. Just my thoughts, but I could be wrong.

I didnt know that toyota had a turbo truck. that kicks ass.

its structural rust.. its worth worrying about

does it still have that milky oil? timing chain ate the guide, chain chews into waterpump on timing cover. antifreeze gets pumped into oil pan, oil pan hydrogenates it into a milky slurry. common issue with mileage'd engines

So ur saying I should take the timing cover off and check fro that before ripping the head off? just fyi its also speweing some kind of liquid on the exhaust manifold after warming up causeing it to smoke grey from under the engine bay

the timing cover feeds coolant down the side of the block via the 1/2" heatercore pipe that bolts into the back of it, under the dizzy/ps pump. could be that, who knows. could be the ps pump itself or the rack or who knows without looking

Definatly go ahead and replace the timing chain and guides while your in it. Big issue with these motors.

dont just replace.. convert it to double row.

and if you do the timing chain, replacing the oil pump wouldnt be a bad idea, you gotta take it off anyways, just get a full gasket kit, and you're going to have to loosen your oilpan to properly do the timing cover lower gasket or risk damaging the headgasket portion that goes between the head and timing cover. pain in the ass when you damage that ;)

every time I see one of those trucks I think of Top Gear episodes with how to kill a toyota pickup.
The pickup would not die after the truck was drowned, hit with a wrecking ball, drop from a helicopter 30 ft, drove through a construction shack, had trailer drop on it, set on fire, and placed on top a 20 story building that was about to blown up.

I put it up on craigslist as soon as I bought it just to see if I could turn a quick 500 bucks but if no ones buys it by friday I will be working on it this weekend. I'll keep everyone updated. Hopefully I don't need a new head or new bearings...

you need to better describe why you think its the head or hg and what issues you get from it as of now. take off the alt/ps pump and see if you cant find your leak back on the drivers side of the timing cover

-Oil was milky and foamy when I drained it(7-8 qtsof stuff came out)
-smokes from under the hood once it warms up to operating temp.
-loses Coolant fast.
-Motor sounded great when I changed the oil and filled the coolant, could even here it compressor surge ;D
