That's gonna be expensive, you have an HD box? or are you talking about connecting the dvd player to it through hdmi?

Re: my new TV and surround

go to best buy, but don't buy the hdmi-dvi cables in the tv dept...go to the computer dept and save $$.

i bought a 42" plasma at the beginning of football season. wireless keyboard/mouse and my desktop computer=surfing the web from the comfort of my recliner.

bose surround and sony dolby dig receiver makes for a great experience paired up w/ my new tv...i've watched more tv/movies the past 2 months than i have in the past year.

I jsut spent $5300 on a tv and $2200 on a dvd/surround (plus tax)
I don't mind spending $100 on a cable if its gonna make my tv picture worth every penny :>

scttydb411...HMDI - HDMI or HDMI-DVI?

Re: my new TV and surround

Ive been researching this stuff for a while. HDMI is nothing more than DVI w/ Sound.

What outputs does the DVD Player have for Sound/Video?

Is this one of those, Receiver / DVD Player's in one?

use a DVI cable. and Optical for your surround.

scttydb411...HMDI - HDMI or HDMI-DVI?

it depends on what input your tv has...mine has dvi so i could use an hdmi-dvi from my dvd. i don't use the sound from the tv since i have the bose/sony surround. i use s-vid from my sat rec to tv and dig opt from the rec to surround. i use component vid from dvd to tv and dig coax from the dvd to surround. i could go hdmi-dvi from dvd to tv, but i didn't feel like going out and getting the cable...the dvd player actually came w/ hdmi-hdmi cable and it wasn't that expensive...the cable costs almost as much as i spent on the dvd player. i was very suprised to see the cable in the box when i opened it up.

My tv has both, DVI and HDMI.
So i think i'm jsut going to go with HDMI - HDMI

Projector is nice if you have no sunlight coming in from what i've heard. maybe i'm wrong?

OK i jsut reread scttydb411's post. is HDMI - DVI more for picture ugh i'm so confused. :S

Re: my new TV and surround

hdmi-hdmi

i have to warn you though, i was using this on my 46" and there was a slight delay when changing pictures. as far as cable brand, go with the monster. they use different types of shielding that will block interference with other cables and power sources. currently i'm using monster component cables and generic audio cables that the cable guy gave me.

Re: my new TV and surround

If you have the HDMI ports, then I'd say use them. I'm not sure what you know or not about them, but I'll try and break it down as easily as possible. With Component/S-Vid/Composite video, you are losing quality because you have a digital signal in your DVD player, which then has to convert it to Analog to be sent through the cables, then your TV converts it back to digital inside the television. So with those conversions, you lose a little bit of quality. So that's where DVI and HDMI come into play. They are a digital cable in themselves, so there isn't any A-D conversion, and that equals better picture. Now DVI is a cable that carries only the video. HDMI does the same, but also incorporates sound. So either you get the cable that does only video, or the one that does both. Just because DVI only does video does not mean it does it better. They both do it great, except HDMI also does the sound, which is why I say that you might as well just use the HDMI if you have it. Then instead of all those wires behind your stereo that people have, you can cut it way down with just a couple HDMI cables, and then add in some wireless speakers. Then your tangled mess of cables behind there will be no more!!

That thing looks way too futuristic for me. :S

I have a 27" Sanyo manufactured in 1999 that still works fine for me. :P

you spent 8 grand on a tv ??? does it toss out handjobs or somthing? jesus

i thought you guys had the internet, hdmi-hdmi cables should not be that much.. come on its just a cable and monster expensive high end cables do not make a diffrence at all. exept in the best buy employees comission check and "sugestive sales" ratings. on froogle i found the cables for 13 bucks.

the best buy employee doesn't make comission, and the shielding in the cables makes all the difference in the world. ever wonder why the radio shack cable is as thin as spagetti? because its a piece of ----. its like saying ssauto makes the same manifolds as full-race

i bet thats why usb cables corrupt so much data when you transfer information over them, oh and cat5 cables too ::). and sata cables (wich send more information, with more precision) than any sheilded homo overpriced monster cable. Even miles of coaxial cable... oh but time warner didint use monster so im sure your screwed there.. But yeah, the cables can cause interference with one another. Do they frequently? No, not realy. is any of the equipment that your using manufactured to the standard that the sheilded special gas yuppy boy homo cables are made to? NO!, Open atmosphere main board chips the pins that come off of the main board to the interface wich you plug the fancy cables into. And its not like full race to ssauto, its more like mugen valve cover to stock honda valve cover. or a set of slipstreams compared to some spoon wheels.

hahah i LOVE the analogies!!
Once again, i did not spend $8000 on JUST the TV.
Best Buy employees are hourly future shop is comission.(atleast here in canadaville it is)

Re: my new TV and surround

yes...i finally found an hdmi-dvi converter plug!!! my dvd came w/ the hdmi cable, but my tv doesn't have the hdmi input...only dvi. i'm happy w/ the component cables, but since the plug is only $30 i can make the switch to higher def from the dvd. there was no way i was going to spend over $100 for an hdmi-dvi cable when component was working well.

jebus! You DVD/Stereo is an all-in-one correct? then use the damn DVI cable because you are not going to need to output sound to the TV!

If I were you, I'd return the Stereo part and go seperates. much better quality.

and who said Klipsh owns? phph! :P ever heard HIGH END before? like.. Krell? Entry level front speakers are $18g.
