they actually dont have latches for the hood they are always popped to save you the trouble.
FACT:the average dsm owner would spend 10 hours every 2 months popping their hood

I got a call from my boy chuck the other day. "come help me pull the motor out of my eclipse" I get there an hour later and its already out. I think "WTF" and ask how he did that so fast and he says " I've done it a hundred times"

same guy who loses bolts and kicks around on the floor till I hear "this one will work" hahaha

Re: my new 600$ ride

he upgraded from the 2g t25 to the big 16g and when his car is running it runs fine. never put a wideband on it or anything but none the less it runs ok.

Good luck. I will never own another DSM. I love they way they look and the interior design is by far my fav of all my cars. You just got yourself into a electrical nightmare though.

I dont know anything about DSM's but looks like a damn good deal for $600 the body is straight with good paint and decent wheels!! :y

I love that color combo with the white and gray trim on the bottom. Though I would never get another DSM. I like driving the car over working on it. Why was it so cheap?

so you show us a pic of a nice looking car and tell us the engine is in the shop and you paid 600 for it.

now you should tell us why it was so ------- cheap? a bum engine isnt enough to bring the price of that car down that far is it?

Were talking crackhead prices, you don't ask questions. you just buy it.

haha

oh, i know about crackhead prices....

i picked up a 2000 VW Jetta VR6 for $950. its worth $7000 and has EVERY option available. but, it did have some issues. the only "major" issues were hail damage and a busted sunroof. VW quoted $1500 just to fix the sunroof. I fixed it for $50 and the time and gas to hit the junk yard.

there has to be something more wrong with the car than a blown engine. this thing blue books for around 3000.

I can go from a running Supra to motor out and stripped in under an hour.

It's a good deal for $600, but I'd be willing to bet you're fixing to have your hands full for a lil while. A friend of mine picked one up last year for $900. Turbonetics manifold and turbo with lots of other aftermarket parts already on the car. We're feeling like he got a steal. BUT it has been one thing right behind the other since he got the car. I wouldn't bother with one unless it's a 1g with a 6 bolt. The 2g's look better, but in my experience they have more problems.

Re: my new 600$ ride

They can be great cars if they are taken care of. Yes they are susceptible to crank walk (the manual trans) and yes they are known for their electrical gremlins. No car is going to go much more than 100,000 miles if it gets beaten like it was starring in an episode of COPS with no maintenance.

I had a Mk4 NA to TT car that was still equipped with the stock NA pump, so that the setup went lean. It was really perplexing as the setup pulled hard and the plugs looked good although she registered 14.5:1 AFRs at 15 psi. No pingies on the piston surfaces, etc. 2JZ are ------- awesome, really. I hate the Mk4 chassis, that engine belongs in a Mk3 or is300.

Re: my new 600$ ride

Not a bad deal at all, seems to be pretty straight.

I had a 1995 stock teg coupe that was completely straight for $500 and just needed a new timing belt, until impound got ahold of it.

Re: my new 600$ ride

It's not the ECU that's going to limit the power you make. It's the MAF. If it's an Eprom ECU it can be socketed/chipped and is actually pretty easy to manipulate. The wiring harnesses in those cars are hacked from the factory, so stay on your toes with wiring things. Get a metal HG, some ARP stud, and replace the timing belt and you should be fine for 400whp reliably.

Re: my new 600$ ride

I removed the hood from my second dsm, and didnt put it back on til I sold it, as the latch didnt work. Saves alot of time not having to pop the hood. :y

Seriously, Ive owned 3 dsms, and I decided that I didnt want to waste my life fixing the same car over and over. Ill never go back.
I love the 4g63, but everything attached to it is the supreme form of failure.

The only way to make a dsm less reliable is to drop in a rotary. :P
