My new $60 paintjob!!!!

Hey guys took 6 days of body work and like 2 hours painting but
I think it came out awesome. Let know what you guys think.
I started out by flaring all the fenders and then went to town on
all the rust I could find.
PS this was my first time tackling body work.
And now in all it's rustolium goodness

Re: My new $60 paintjob!!!!

so what is it rustoleum, straight out of the can sprayed on, give us the details

alx954 04-24-2007 08:08 PM

Re: My new $60 paintjob!!!!

Yup just regular rustolium, I thinned it a tiny bit like 10%
mineral spirits and then 2 coats and it's over. Works
awesome, but now I need to wet sand and polish.

Re: My new $60 paintjob!!!!

did u roll it on or use a paint gun?

alx954 04-24-2007 08:49 PM

Re: My new $60 paintjob!!!!

Paint gun, rolling takes way too long, and I would have needed like 6-8 coats to cover.

Re: My new $60 paintjob!!!!

I'll take some high res pics after I wet sand and buff it, that way you
can see it shine :) And the gun was a crappy Lowes gun $50, air was
at 25psi I think. Barely any overspray with this paint and no drips anywhere.

A+, the only thing ya fucked up on was making a complete writeup for it

cberman 04-25-2007 04:06 PM

Re: My new $60 paintjob!!!!

theres not much to write about. i did a roll on paint job on my civic. its not rocket science...just takes a ---- ton of patience. if you're rolling on, you can expect several days just in adding coats of paint...i think i did 8 or 10 (2 a day)...i found it worked best to thin it out more after each coat. covered better and helped with sanding at the end

alx954 04-25-2007 06:47 PM

Re: My new $60 paintjob!!!!

Ya man no time for a write up, spent too damn long
doing nothing but sanding and filling and more sanding.
Probably put in maybe 20-25 hours hammering and sanding :o
and it's still not perfectly straight. But if your body is nice and
straight just scuff the paint and spray the bitch :6

Re: My new $60 paintjob!!!!

I might have to give this a shot..... you can also use John Deere Blitz Black if you want that sating finish.

raiden571 04-26-2007 11:32 AM

Re: My new $60 paintjob!!!!

i would have made it a solid black bumper to bumper then leave the top part white. for some reason it just doesnt look right to me unless its that way. but it looks pretty good for rustoleum paint. have any before pics? did u make the fender flares yourself? either way looks good

Ravage70 04-26-2007 12:17 PM

Re: My new $60 paintjob!!!!

paint the bumpers and itll be golden

alx954 04-26-2007 03:15 PM

Re: My new $60 paintjob!!!!

Ha, I like the way the bumpers are for some reason it works damnit ;)
Anyways there was a bunch of rust by the trunk and some on the doors
so I just busted out my old flux core and went to town.
And those are the only pics I have of before, I tried to only get the angles
where you couldnt see any ---- spots =) Trust it was pretty messy.

Re: My new $60 paintjob!!!!

Im gonna try this, rolled on though. Less mess, no overspray, thing out to the consistency of milk and roll on very light. 2 Coats and then sand, repeat until covered. Im doing blue over blue so coverage should go pretty quick.

Been reading up on it alot here http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/...0&fpart=5&vc=1

Yah, I want to see better pics too. I'm not wanting to pick your car apart, I just want to poll people for exact results in case I go this route so i know what to expect.

For $60, though? The car looks clean, and I doubt anyone can see any blemishes from 10 feet away.

alx954 05-26-2007 06:47 PM

Re: My new $60 paintjob!!!!

Hey guys it comes out awesome for what it is, if I had done
a nice job prepping and block the entire car before painting
you would not see any blemishes at all.
Give it a shot it's cheap and not hard to do if you spray it.

Re: My new $60 paintjob!!!!

okay i am about to sell a car and am picking up a civic wagon that needs a little body work and some paint. i want to paint it gloss white on top and repaint the side molding and bumpers black wiht the bumper paint and below the side molding black. the only thing is i'm not sure what color black, gloss, semi gloss, regular??? okay but besides that how are you polishing the paint afer all is said and done? i seen that the guy in the link above uses turtle wax rubbing compound but from what i know about detailing you need a glaze and polish on top of that to give it the shine that your lookign for.

oh and ---- WINDOWS VISTA!!!!

alx954 05-28-2007 09:58 PM

Re: My new $60 paintjob!!!!

For the bumpers just used bumper spray paint, it
says on the can "specially for bumper" or something like that.
Now for polishing you'd have to wetsand the car and then
just use that turtle wax and buff with high speed buffer.
The dude with the orange charger said it worked best for
him so that's what I'm gonna use if I ever wetsand the
damn car ;D

Re: My new $60 paintjob!!!!

so should i get a black paint that matches the bumpers or a glossier one?

Turblow 05-31-2007 03:50 PM

Re: My new $60 paintjob!!!!

Duplicolour bumper paint

J-MAN 06-15-2007 11:45 PM

Re: My new $60 paintjob!!!!

okay just went to the store and picked up some rustoleum but it says "oil based" on the can, is that the right ----? i got 2 Qt's of gloss white and a pint of satin black that would match the bumper paint so it wouldn't stand out too much. is that the right stuff?

part number for the white is: 7792
satin black was: 7777

total cost was 18.51 for paint ;D
