It looks pretty decent. What's your setup, and what's that aluminum glasspack-looking thing in your charge piping?

Re: my home made turbo

List of parts is in the link and the canister thing as a pwr air/water intercooler.

In short: Mani/exhaust/intake is custom and everything else is non appliclation specefic parts.

Re: my home made turbo

good job, but you should get a bigger intake on the turbo. you are really chocking it down alot, if you are still running that reducer on it. ;)

That air/water IC has to be crap on a daily/street driven car. But otherwise the setup looks to be well done. I like the gt30r :)

Definetly toss the reducer to her inlet like the other guys have said :)

nice setup, however I think your upper IC pipe should be routed differently, ---- not only does it cover the radiator cap it looks like the hood wont even shut?

Cool stuff though =) welcome to HMT

It is a air-water intercooler, which plays the part of entire IC piping setup.

No ----? I know what a Air-water IC is.. we used used one in our latest project I just think the piping could have been routed better. ::)

I tried to keep the intake piping as simple as possible. I would of made it a straight line if I could, bends cause restristion for nothing in myt opinion. The only way I see that I could have made it fit without covering the radiator cap was to put in at an angle and the brake master cylinder would of bin in the way.

As for the restriction, again space is the issue and the maf sensor. When I get a stand alone i will get rid of the sensor and maybe the reduction but in reality I can't fit a 4inch. pipe right there, as is it just barely clears the clutch bleeder.

As for IC, it's not that bad on street use cuz I got a big water reservoir (aluminium thing in the trunk). It takes a while before it gets hot and it cools down to a resonable temperature when not boosting. Of course when I go to race it, I will drain part of it out.

Here is a question I was asking miself, what kind of oil seals are used in a turbo?

Re: my home made turbo

reason why the IC can't fit anywhere is cuz it's so big and the engin bay so small.

HMT-Admin 08-01-2005 04:15 PM

Re: my home made turbo

I would have angled the IC down a bit more and used a sharper radius bend off the turbo, the radius on that bend you have now is huge. Or relocated the battery

why are you putting an intercooler in the engine bay???
(get a different IC)

looks good though.

nice gtx, all u need now is awd stuff, ur now the second person with a turbo pro

Re: my home made turbo

I like the IC the way it is, it's different and it works well, it's staying. ;D

Nice to see a different point of view tho.

What advantage would you see in changing it? It only take a fiew second to take off if I need acces to the radiator cap, I don't see that as a problem, do you?

Things that might change shortly are BOV, clutch and oil lines.

Not bad but...

E.T. 15.29 Sec

was it really worth it?

ya, my first time at the track with it. Did 3 runs with no water in the intercooler and the best one was 15.29 with 0.8sec time reaction on winter tires. So if I new how to start properly, I would easely hit low 14s with no intercooler.(pump died)

I have no regrets yet even after blowing my first motor last week.

mazda2002 08-17-2005 04:52 PM

Re: my home made turbo

now that I got half decent tires on it, my clutch is starting to slip. I wonder how ell I would do with my intercooler runnig and I guess that would test it out to those who think poorly of it.

Re: my home made turbo

unless you're in some sort of competition, your reaction time has no bearing on your quarter mile time. Ricer.
