my guardian angel was with me tonight.

I was driving home from work tonight, the same as always where I have to take the highway. I don't speed really anymore, +5 mph over the posted speed is about it cause Olympia, WA cops are all over speeders and I don't want to pay tickets and increased insurance rates. However, I like to hotdog it onto the highways because it's about the only place you can really get into it with getting nailed.
Anyways, I'm on the onramp in my CRX, and I'm pushin' it through the long sweeping turns (left then right) as I'm deposited onto fastlane of the highway. Well it rains here a lot, so I wasn't overly agressive, but as I exit the last turn onto the highway the car breaks loose. I have plenty of time to think and I push the clutch and guide my wheels into the slide. Nothing happens and I keep rotating. I'm at about 65 mph as the ass comes around the left and I drift from the fast lane all the way to the slow lane. By the time I'm in the slow lane, I've gone completely 180 and am still approaching the guard rail so now I try the brakes. I'm sure the car that came around the bend was suprised to see my headlights shining right at him in his lane. By the time my car stops, the nose has caught up with the tail again and I'm parked sideways across two lanes of highway. Thank god nobody was around for this incident cause it could've been really ugly. :-[
I've learned that I've MUST be more careful.
Sorry for the stupidity.

you lost it going 65 mph?

don't press in the clutch when you start to lose the backend

It had just rained. :-\
I felt like I should have been able to save it.
My front wheels were already gone, too, so how come I'd want to keep the power to them?

I would probably just get off the gas and tuck. ;) Glad to hear it worked out ok, though.

the tires still could grip and pull you straight :)

last time i spun around a corner (in my old crx)
i just let off the gas corrected... and i never spun around completly. just went sideways until i stopped :)

Yeah last winter in my integra i had plenty a chance to be spinning around in the streets, and every time I just let off the gas, the car would grip the road again and basically I could turn it straight again. My integra sucked in the snow... but I suppose the bald tires had a little to do with it. :-\

Lucky it didn't turn out worse. :-\
I had something like that happen to me once. It had just rained and I got pissed at my girlfriend and took off down the street and about 100 yards down the street is a fairly sharp turn. Well, I tried to take it at about 65 even though the road was wet. ::) I lost the back end instantly and began to slid sideways heading straghit for a large curb. The truck was lifted and I was picturing it rolling when it hit the curb. I cranked the wheel and hammered the gas and ended up doing a complete 360 heading in the same direction I was traveling. People were coming up the road and were shocked to see me doing doughnuts in the road. :)

I lost control getting on a highway too. But it wasn't raining. I was car dodging. Luckily I didn't hit anything or anyone. My Guardian Angel was watching over me, so I punched her and the face and yelled, "Stop ------- staring at me!" - Matt
