my first time at dragstip with turbo wagon and ghettodyne,,

My first time ever drag racing. ran the wagon tonight on ghettodyne. 10lbs of boost, street tuned. best was 9.8 in 8th, but i was leaving at the wrong light so my reaction time blows. someone finally told me what I was doing wrong, but the track closed so I couldn't try it again. had a blast. my friend was there with his omni he put a turbo in, with 14 lbs of boost and automatic I was catching him even with my crappy reaction times. I gotta get a wideband and tune this thing right!

Hahaha leaving at the wrong light!! If I ever make it to a track I'll probably do something just as stupid with a R/T of like 3.754 or something. :P Got any pics of the wagon?

Now that is cool!!! I bet you can launch that bitch at 6500 with mad traction! Nice work. How long have you had this for with the swap?

turbo has been on for about 6-8 months. everything else is about a year and a half old.

just a question, could i rig up an 4 wheel drive system to a crx? and did they have 88-90 awd wagons? if so were the rear suspension arms the same?

Re:my first time at dragstip with turbo wagon and ghettodyne,,

your 1/8th mile time and doesn't have anything to do with reaction time... it doesn't start until you cross the line :)

9.8 is really slow.. whats the deal with that? AWD should help you out a lot. that wagon must be heavy...

turbowagonman 06-21-2003 09:51 AM

Re:my first time at dragstip with turbo wagon and ghettodyne,,

the wagon is heavy, its only street tuned(guessing), my first time racing, can't launch for ---- cause it has so much traction it falls on its face till the boost hits. I gotta slip the clutch a little I guess. I also have a small turbo, 2 1/4 exhaust, and a flowbastard which needs to come off.
they made the wagon 4wd from the early 80's until 91. you can put it in a crx but its alot of work. the floorpans are totally different, the swingarms are different lengths, so you would need to be able to fabricate pretty well. the wagon also has a bolt on crossmember instead of the stamped and welded on one that all the other civics have.
Oh yea, i'm running full interior and the car still has A/C also.

I've read somewhere of a guy with that setup awd crx. I sold a zc to some guy awhile ago who had a turbo'd zc powered wagon. I would love to see the reaction of someone getting smoked by an old civic wagon. Though the wagons are not true awd cause the rearend only gets some like 30% of power and their not that strong. Honda tuner is doing up a wagon in their issues, cool but it's sporting 17's but its rockin' sparco buckets front and back.

I have a link to the picture gallery of the awd crx in canada, it's on my other computer so the next time I'm there I'll post it.

yeah Ive seen a crx awd, with a b20 and turbo, talk about sick. It stole the drive train from a CRV. I dont remember where I saw it, probably honda-tech.

Re:my first time at dragstip with turbo wagon and ghettodyne,,

yeah that was honda-tech. i'm thinking of building one like that sometime.

Yeah that old school honda ---- is awesome... I mean, getting wasted by a civic wagon... turbo or not thats gotta be funny ----... People on the street will be shocked. Im kinda going for the same thing with my 88 Accord project...

Re:my first time at dragstip with turbo wagon and ghettodyne,,

what i have learned from dragstrips is take your time on take off, don't pay attention to the light. when it's green just take off and concentrate on your take off.. that will make a big difference. r/t doesn't take anything off your 1/4 mile time. but if you want your r/t than take off a little after the last orange light goes off. and before the green seems it's about to turn on.

Re:my first time at dragstip with turbo wagon and ghettodyne,,

yeah, that's easy to say, but it's different when your doing it, that's why it's called reaction time, and not thinking time

Re:my first time at dragstip with turbo wagon and ghettodyne,,

lol thats some good advice warren :P

if you're really hardcore and want to win a bracket race, you have to compensate for body flex (on bigger cars. i don't think most hondas flex very much) and then if you're on street tires and of course how hard you're launching. but warren is right if you just want to make a good practice run just chill on the light and make sure you get a good launch

Re:my first time at dragstip with turbo wagon and ghettodyne,,

---- yeah!!!! I love the real time AWD on the crv's. My dad has one and the car is slow but the real time is dope as hell. Tires spin for less than a second and then your AWD. From what I have heard its just a viscious differential. WOOOOH damn I drink too much

20% power back wheels. have u seen the diff and rear axles. ------- sad..

turbowagonman 06-30-2003 08:35 AM

Re:my first time at dragstip with turbo wagon and ghettodyne,,

it has a viscous joint in the driveshaft that allows 3% slippage before it locks up solid. sad is spinning your tires trying to launch! its not for everyone but it works for me. I can run thru a wet intersection at 10 lbs of boost without spinning a tire. it launches like its dry.
