My Experience with SSautochrome!!

Well, for my HMT project, which is a 1998 Grand Prix GTP, I'm turboing the car cuz the blower wasn't good enough and I needed a intercooler.

I looked around lots and looked at many different options from custom coach to precision to PWR to spearco etc. but there was no way I could pass up the SSauto FMIC because of the size and the price. I won a auction of theirs on E-bay for a 24"x12"x4" intercooler, the initial bid was $185 and buy it now was $249, I got it at $185. They had clearly stated the shipping cost to me in Canada of $35 via fedex (Not bad compared to $28 for US) and a $3 insurance. As soon as I won the auction on Tuesday, they send me an invoice, I went on their website and paid using my Credit Card, then got a notification that since I was paying on a Tuesday, my item would ship on Friday and would take 5-10 business days.

Wednesday morning, I get an e-mail from Fedex saying my package was shipping and gave me a tracking number. I then shortly after get an e-mail from SSauto saying that it was shipping.

Thursday morning I get a call from Fedex asking me if I wanted them or someone else to clear it through customs, they said it was a "radiator" and valued at $18..lol..I didn't ask SSauto to declare a different value so that I wouldn't get dinged the customs or anything, they just did it. so I tell them to go ahead and clear it.

Friday morning, ring on the doorbell and Fedex has is here with my intercooler...I almost hug the woman ;) then I open up the box, the sexiest $185 intercooler I have ever seen. I visually inspected it for problems with the welds, didn't see any but I will be pressure testing it to make sure. Then I proceed to masturbate all over the core.

all in all, I would rate this experience with dealing with SSauto on ebay as INSANELY AMAZING!!!! I was really sceptical before but wow, if only they had other good products I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.

I had a good experience with SSAutochrome as well, very fast shipping and everything was packaged great.

with what? A intercooler? lol

it's not like it's a cheap thin gauge turbo manifold that cracks, or a turbocharger with subpar bearings, it's a intercooler.

I almost just took my 2 audi5000 cores, welded them together and made some end tanks, I'm pretty sure this will perform a zillion times better for me.

let see some pics of what you got vs the picture in the auction. its hard to screw up an intercooler, i'd pimp one.

Your right, just an intercooler, so let's support them, giv ethem buisness thereby aloowing them to continue making (mostly) a subpar product, mani's , turbo's etc so the idiot kids out there will keep buying them instead of looking a little harder and buying quality stuff from people we know and trust..im sure hotsex would rather build mani's for the ---- of it then actually sell them and make some cash...ah yes, gotta love capitalism....

Re: My Experience with SSautochrome!!

well, I surely ain't going to buy a $600 intercooler because of your thoughts on SSauto... lol

this was purely a thread about my dealings with them as a business through e-bay and not about their sub par other products. I'm sure it would have been the same no matter what i bought from them, I was just smart and bought something that should actually work.

some companies have really shitty products, and really really shitty service, no communication, takes forever for them to ship etc. but SSauto was awesome.

Re: My Experience with SSautochrome!!

I been rocking one of their intercooler for about two years now. They are well built, a bit on the heavy side, but no big deal. Best power I made with it was 573whp and some 375wtq.

The openings are 3" in and out, core looks verry good and end tanks are tapered one piece design. I was scheptic about them too, but it turned out to be ok.

Don't get me wrong, I would not rock any other products from them. ;D

Re: My Experience with SSautochrome!!

SSAC intercoolers and BOV's are "okay." The IC core isn't optimum, but if you go a little big with one, it does a decent job of chilling things.

Everything else, especially the manifolds, is a dice roll to some extent or another.

Why dosnt everyone just ---- off with their 400hp comments Its getting kinda old seeing it on ever thread, I'd like to see how much horsepower all the ---- talkers made, 400 was his goal before he even did the setup, and he's pretty damn close with bugs still being worked out.

My goal is 250, but i'll probably only make 200

Becuase we had to hear for 6 months how it was a guarantee that it would easily break 400whp. It didn't, so now we get to bust his balls for having to hear over and over how 400 was easy.

and a year before that the mighty 300hp turbo d..... :-* :-*, it's awesome 389 is great, but when you talk a lot of ----, you need to take some back...it's all fun and games

Re: My Experience with SSautochrome!!

SSautopoop def has some of the best shipping out there. It is super quick, well packaged[almost overkill] and they mark cross border stuff as used rechromed parts to save on customs.Basically other than there manifolds all there products are a good value.Obviously they are not as good as big name expensive parts but that is a given. We just got a intercooler kit from them for a S13 240 and it is great.Piping is all shiny and lines up damm close to perfect, decent silicone couplers and all tbolt clamps included. It was one quarter of the price of the Greddy,HKS etc kits and almost as good.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't CCA offer a very nice intercooler for LESS than that? :l

Also, shitty service and communication....ummm...have you seen his feedback? Try to send that intercooler back to him and see what happens. Then after he fucks you around and doesn't respond to your emails, leave him negative feedback and see what he has to say about that. :1 SSAC is teh best! :1

they probably didnt have the size he wanted. Dont they only offer 6"X 30" or something like that, and there only truck radiator cores cut down I thought?

What do you think SAC cores are made out of? :l

Look at the example of 98CTR's intercooler, supports his 550+ whp and was cheap as heck.

Are you saying a CCA(or any other intercooler) wouldn't? :l I think it would take a pretty shitty intercooler to not "support" a certain HP, but intercoolers are rated by efficiency and most people never know if their intercooler wasn't efficient. :-\

what is the biggest IC CCA sells, if I remember right the biggest one supports maybe 300whp or somewhere around there.

I'm sure Anthony is capable of making larger units, but most people aren't breaking the 300hp mark so it's not his main advertised seller.

Does anybody have any idea what the efficiency rate of the SSAC intercooler is? I'm sure he says "RATED TO 50000WHP" and "GUARENTEED FOR LIFE", but we all know that guy is full of ---- and doesn't even know the true size of the turbos he sells, let alone the supported hp rating of his intercoolers. :l
