My day at the dyno. :(

Well well. Today I went down to CarTek tuning to tune the sol. The tuner was Chris from GRTechnologies. So outside the dyno we were working on my out of boost settings. Did decent pulling some fuel out, but the car is really really rich still. So on the dyno. He makes some out of boost passes and messes with some settings.. Then starts to get into boost. 5 Psi and the pipes start flying. Blew off 2. Reattached them. Did another few runs blew one off and it blew the ------- front bumper off. (pipe right before intercooler). We were way lean on settings like -47 and he still couldnt dial out enough fuel. And he also said my clutch is slipping so bad he didnt want to continue. So we made one last pass. Pipes flew some more. I made so much power I dont know what to do with myself. 88hp 110tq w00h00 I'm a speed demon now. Needless to say. Grabbing a Exedy Clutch/Flywheel. Adjustible FPR to bring some pressure down. And welding a bead around each pipe so the coupling has something to grab to. Luckily they only charged me $20. Oh well. Back to more work. >:(

just flare out the pipes a little at the ends with vise-grips...what is your setup that youre running so rich

That could work too. Wouldnt that be hard with vises to bend mandrel pipes?

d16y7 + 14b 8psi. dsm 2nd gen 450cc's. 10watt10ohm inline resistors. SAFC. Walbro 255lph fuel pump. Fuel pressure @ 39psi with Endyn Fuel Pressure Releif Mod (driller orifice). I dunno. I guess the fuel pressure is puttin me over the top.

Well don't be dissapointed man, thats the whole idea of tuning, to get the most out of your engine. You start with a baseline and you work from there. Just get a new clutch and do the little charge pipe trick and then give the dyno another try. Better luck next time

just clamp the vise grips on there and bend the edge back...worked for me at 13psi

i used to have that problem when I tighten the band clamps with a screw driver.. now I use a socket.

It sucked because I was using a 8mm rachet for the couplings too. :( Oh well. Ordering my Exedy clutch tomorrow and ordered my fpr tonight.

sounds like Garrison dyno luck. when ever we take my car to the dyno everything that can go wrong does. :P

I know this sounds stupid but do you really need to weld a ridge? I'm thinking about making a line of jbweld around the pipe cause I don't have a welder, or maybe just duct taping a piece of wire around the pipe.

go down to your local fabrication shop and ask if they have a bead roller if so they should be able to roll a nice bead on the ends of your pipes in about 5min for a minimum charge

I talked to a guy from around here with a high boost turbo teg and he said he used to have this problem all the time. He did a bead of JBWeld and said its never came off ever since and that was 6 months ago. Thats enough proof for me.. ;P

i wouldnt use jb weld there....if little chunks come off that ---- if going into your motor

ok try this.. in theory it should work better and it costs nothing but 5 min per end...

Take a hand saw and score the surface of the tube where the coupler's connect. this will give the couplers a rougher surface to "bite" into instead of shiney steal. I'd say make the scoring about 1/2" - 1" all the way around. if that doesn't work, go get that bead weld :)
