Re:My D17 manifold..comments welcomed
make sure u burn off all the gavanized ---- on those before using it in your car...
fumes are bad. |
Re:My D17 manifold..comments welcomed
I think its sand blasted black pipe. It will rust very fast if you let it like that. Gas grille paint might hold up ok.
Roads closed Pizza boy.. Find another way.. ;D |

Re:My D17 manifold..comments welcomed
Your manny looks great, and will work great too.
The on the first manny i made, i used exhaust paint (is good till 650 degrees centigrade), but that came off the first drive. (i kind of expected that to happen). Then i just threw on some oil which burned in, surprisingly the manny does not seem to rust. (have it on the car for about 6 months now) Recently made an other manifold, still have to find out with what to protect it. (want a decent protection for this one) So if you guys know any good paint/ coating, please, enlighten me. Pieter |
Re:My D17 manifold..comments welcomed
I don't suggest painting the manifold. I tried several different kinds of high-temp and nothing stayed on. It all ended up flaking off and geting all over the entire engine bay. :( Maybe I just wasn't using the right stuff. ???

What does greddy put on their manifolds?
|
Re:My D17 manifold..comments welcomed
grill paint will burn off after a few hours of use, i had a pair of headers that were ceramic coated and tey looked great for as long as i had them, i dont know if you can get stuff ceramic coated or not but it might be worth looking in to.....what about powdercoating does any one know how that holds up to heat?
|
Re:My D17 manifold..comments welcomed
I think ceramic coating is expensive. It would be worth it though. I have had several headers that were ceramic coated and they lasted forever.

Haha, I have used that and it doesn't hold up to manifold heat. Same thing, flakes off all over everything. :( __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |
Re:My D17 manifold..comments welcomed
Headers suck to paint. about hte only thing you can do is polish it out or leave it as is. looks good tho.
|
Re:My D17 manifold..comments welcomed
i used 1500 degree paint from the parts store that held up great...made by vhf or something like that

I used DUPONT 800 degree celcius paint..it held up.
My neighbour sprayed MOTIP 600 degree celcius paint and it's holding up it was a kinda greyisch metalic paint. I think the thing is to make sure your manifold is clean before painting...or sand it a bit |
Re:My D17 manifold..comments welcomed
i've ben sanding it
that's how i got it to loook like that with sandpaper, stainless steel and brass detail brushes and then some mothers polish here and there. im goin g to get somemore opions before i decide wether to paint it or not. It'll be at least another month before the install begins thanx for the comment s and keep'em comin |
Re:My D17 manifold..comments welcomed
Well its gonna rust pretty fast. I have had good luck with the cheap gas gril paint on stock manifolds.. It might not hold up on a turbo manifold though. Painting it won't really increase the life of it. Just make it look nicer for longer.

must be a inside joke cause i con't get it :-\
explanation.... |
Re:My D17 manifold..comments welcomed
good job ,i would grind the edges a little to smooth it out . The main thing when painting is to get it as clean as possible , i used mineral spirits when it comes to painting engine parts. For some of my stuff i used a high temp wrinkle finish that we use on the harley motors. It holds up real good since we got some of the engines up to 400 + degrees
