My bent ass tie rod end!
This little bitch is starting to piss me off. Ever since I smacked a curb a while back when we had our first sleet it's gotten worse, and even before that it was worn as hell already. I'm pretty sure it's not a very expensive part, but how hard is it to install? My friend and I put one on my '89 Camaro a while back but that was so long ago I forgot what we had to do to get to it. Do I have to take any of the suspension apart to get to it or does it just bolt off then unscrew?

Re:My bent ass tie rod end!
it depends if its an aftermarket cheapass joint or if its a stock honda one. If its a stock honda one i think all you have to do is get 2 wrenches, one for the tie rod end to to break it loose, and another to hold the jam nut. To get to all of this all you have to do is take off the wheel and maybe undo the lower ball joint (not sure cant remember the last time i had to do one)you might need somthing like a pickle fork to get the tie rod end out of the knuckle. Hopefully you just fuct the joint up and not anything else so all you would have to do is make sure the jam nut didnt turn at all (a half turn can set your alignment off) and just unscrew the old tie rod end then screw the new one on and jam the nut tight and bolt it all back together... Dont for get the cotter pin either

Re:My bent ass tie rod end!
you want someone to hold your hand while you're installing it? you've been on the sight for a long time already. are you an HMT groupie or do you know how to work on cars? take off the old one put in the new one and count the threads before assembly so you don't ---- up the alignment.
|
Re:My bent ass tie rod end!
Yea I work on cars bitch :-* I know to take it off and count the threads, my question was if there's anything that's going to get me stuck as I only have basic tools like wrenches and sockets. Accordepicenter answered my post a little better, saying I might need a pickle fork etc. which I don't have. I just want this to be in, out, boom I'm good to go. So from what you're saying it's a piece of cake then, as in take the wheel off and unbolt that bitch and remove it and install the new one, correct?

Re:My bent ass tie rod end!
no cock head just becareful you don't ---- up the threads when you hit the balljoint thread shaft with a hammer. and your avitar looks like you're getting plugged up the ass :-X

Re:My bent ass tie rod end!
It's me pre-puke actually. Why would I have to hit the shaft with a hammer? And don't tell me cuz it's stuck on there, I just don't see why I'd have to hit the actual shaft with it.

Re:My bent ass tie rod end!
not the shaft, the ball joint which is the part that the nut is holding onto on the end of the tie rod. it won't be stuck on real hard, just a tap will get it out. whatever you do don't try prying off the tie rod.

Re:My bent ass tie rod end!
somtimes it helps to heat the threaded end of the tie rod ends to get them off easier... thats particularly true with aftermarket cheapo ends
|
Re:My bent ass tie rod end!
To get the tie rod end out of the steering knuckle you will probably have to beat the ---- out of the knuckle with a hammer where the ball joint goes into the knuckle. Also pry up on the old tie rod while you are hitting the knuckle to help pop it loose. ;)

Re:My bent ass tie rod end!
it might buy your sorry ass more room when trying to thread the tierod end on... if you need it

Re:My bent ass tie rod end!
Isn't the ball joint built into the tie rod end?

the tie rod end has a joint built into the end but it ist not "the ball joint" the ball joints on your car are at the top and bottom of the spindle. there is a threaded end on the inside of the car with a jam nut. there is also a castle nut with a cotter pin on the outside of the car. 1 remove cotter pin 2 remove castle nut 3 you could try just whacking the joint witha ball pien but you should use a pickle fork 4 count threads from jam nut 5 loosen jam nut 6 remove tie rod end and the part will probably be 9.99 at pep boys good luck do it yourself you don't need help |
