I think you misunderstood him. He said the spring tension is just there to scrape the oil. He also said that the rings don't seal just from spring tension, they seal because of the pressure of the gas.

I couldn't find where it said "rings don't seal the cylinder" or anything like that.

"Contrary to popular belief, piston rings don't seal the combustion pressure by spring tension. Ring tension is necessary only to "scrape" the oil to prevent it from entering the combustion chamber."

Try again.

use this exact page as a reference when we broke in my brother's GSR. Redlined it a few times and slowing down with engine braking. I guess the load that the engine braking applies is what really breaks in the rings.

oh yeah, then why do 2 strokes have ring tension, is it to keep the oil out of the combustion chamber

The method described works well. My last build i let it warm up to operating temp then just rallied it w/ 6psi of boost. After 45 miles, i did a compression test and i had 150psi across the board (8:1). I then changed the oil at 100 miles, then again at 1500.

Big ole' fat repost, but still has some decent info. If i'm not mistaken there was a huge bunch of threads started last year or so about this same topic. Everyone seemed to have their own opinion on what works for them, but nobody really got violent with it. Everyone just needs to calm down and relax for a change instead of gettin all pissy about ---- :P
