check out this link, man. This guy is sorta in the same boat as you and asked our local forum about the military, and got straight up no bullshit answers from people who have been in for 2 years all the way to people who have retired from the military. Our local forum is about 85-90% military, some hate it, some love it. Its much easier than me typing everything all over again. Go read through the entire thread.

Im in the Marines Corps infantry and I'm in Iraq right now. if you've got questions let me know... as far as jobs that transfer to the civilian world, i would'nt worry about that as much... you can basically walk onto any state police department or any other federal job just by the fact that you are a marine. yeah the infantry is harder then most other jobs cause of all the field ops and ---- not to mention the fact that when you do go overseas you won't be chilling on a base all day but in the end its a very rewarding experience and joining was without a doubt the best decision i ever made. if you have questions let me know

ummm i was in one of the better mechanical engineering schools in the country on a full scholarship with a halfway decent gpa... the "other options" arent always what people are looking for.

i Do not enjoy at any instance the idea of an obligation.. and you will be obligated to do things you do and don't not want to do. and you have to do it.. because.. you signed for it and because you sign for it you are obligated. noone in this forum will disagree with me on this pretense. that something you have to consider. if you your self want to be obligated and committed for 8 YEARS OF YOUR LIFE that's 1/9 of your average lifetime. make your own choice..

why not make your own business and start off from scratch? if you have the rep you say you do.. why not branch off on to your own..
