Motorcycle things....
Hey guys,
I don't post much here, I'm kind of out of the turbo scene. I bought a 01 suzuki 600 and have been just riding around and what not. I kind of got into an arguement with one of my friends about bike exhaust and what not. Like everything is expensive for bikes, ridiciously expensive to me. Like I'm looking at slip on exhausts and its basically just a muffler, I don't know how much "research and Engineering" goes into making these mufflers for bikes, but I can't justify more than twice the cost for a 2.25" straight through muffler for 300+ dollars. Am i just missing something, or do these bike parts companies just rip off bike people because they will pay it...? Nate |

If you can't justify it then don't buy it. but it does take engineering to make parts that make power

I take it you got a katana or a gsxr, well my bike had slip ons on it when i bought it ;D I've noticed that slip ons cost almost as much for a full systems I don't know why either. Maybe its cause on a bike it has to look good too. People complan if their bike exhaust starts to blue, rust pit, etc. So it has to be high quality too, Plus its the name your paying for too.

The gains from any kind of slip on are so minimal it's ridiculous.
All you are paying for is something that will last a while, and has a different sound. not better, just different If you want more power, buy a bigger bike- don't waste your money spending it on parts that will only give you another 3hp max |

if you got a 01 600..search on ebay and local shops..a gsxr1000 motor will drop right down into your frame, plastics still bolt up with a "slight" bulge..but thats a damn good sleeper for a bike...or you could just buy a turbo manifold and piece together a nice lil turbo kit for it..or BOTH..is it stock swingarm or stretched?

Ya I don't know. A lot of the bike people I've seen are pretty ricer, but they do have fast machines, so they just put money into stuff that really doesn't do anything performance-wise. But it just seems retarded to me, to pay so much for a cosmetic enhancement. Its also kind of suprising that all the companies, I found, that make bikle exhausts are similarly priced. You'd think someone would make a nice bike muffler that looks good for 100 dollars less than all the name brands.

I myself just started piecing together a turbo set-up for my 600 cbr. I hope to far enough along in the next month or so for it to be worth taking some pictures.

^^^Mr. Turbo makes kits for big bores and I think there's one for the late 90's gixer 750 but I haven't found any for six hundreds. If saw one for my bike I would have bought it. It took a solid week to fabricate my mani...

later 90's models 600 and 750's and earlier 1000's share the same exhaust flange pattern..if im not mistaken..since its pretty common to swap upper half and lower half exhausts thruout the models, its a cheap hp increase for the lower cc bikes..i jiust cant remember which exact models are interchangeable.

that looks good, personally I'm very happy with the performance of my bike right now so I'm not really looking to turbo it atm. But we do have an old 500 that would be a good candidate.

^^^What, like a Suzuki gs 500? Are those eight valve...? Yeah I think I did a valve adjustment on one of those for a friend. Screw type with square key tappets. That "might work but I would wonder if the amount of exhaust output would be enough to spin a turbo up at any decent RPM. Then there is the cam lift/duration/overlap issue...
If you have a gt25 or other small turbo laying around, I'd say give it hell and ride it like you stole it. |
