My dad's 06 civic blew both rear shocks at 20k miles and the dealer denied his warranty claim as struts are apparently wear and tear items... And with all the cost cutting, cutbacks, and lack of qc no I don't think most cars today will last 250k with minimal effort. Even Toyota, which is supposed to be the beacon of light when it comes to quality had trucks that were blowing their blocks with less than 10k miles... Honda/Acura took almost six years to admit there was a problem with the third gear on the rsx/si...

20k? Tell her to look at an E46 BWW 330xi. You can find one with about 40k for that price. Great cars. A little heavy and slightly underpowered but its beautiful.
