mint 1985 conquest!!!!!!!

holy ----, i'm gonna get flamed for no pics, but i just had to share this. my uncle (mid 30's, cool guy) works in the city i live in but he lives an hour away and drives every day, he wanted me to find him a civic or something for under 3k, so i'm like cool. he calls me last night, i figured to ask if i had found anything for him, so as soon as i get on the phone i say "what bitch, i've been looking", he says "na, it's cool, i already picked something up but want you to come look at it, it's an 85 conquest" me... :o i roll up to his work and peep it out, 85 white conquest, totally mint inside and out, no scratches, no dents, interior looks mint from the factory, paint looks fresh from the factory as well, come to find out the owner kept it under a car cover, "how many miles does it have?" him "23,000 original miles" me once again :o :o it doesn't run that great, it runs out of breath at about 5k and sometimes after boosting, the boost gauge doesn't go down past zero when you let you foot off, i looked at the air filter and that bitch was clogged slam up, so i sent him to the auto store to order a drop in k&n, some injector cleaner ----, some new plugs and new wires and i think it will fix everything. he may have me pick it up today to do the ---- for him, if so, i'll def. have pics and vids, the car is so mint like a collectors item. he only paid 4k for it 8)

Re:mint 1985 conquest!!!!!!!

I can get ahold of him tonite, or maybe the wife can today- and see make sure he still has it. I know he had to get it out of his garage by a certain date, but im unsure.

you might be able to get it cheaper.

the body, when I say mint, no dings, dents, rust that i could recongize. it does need to be waxed/buffed because it has sat in a garage for awhile. the interior, it was very nice also. no radio, but other than that, it was in really decent shape.

from what the owner says, they were bringing it back from raligh and it went boom. I think someone ran it with no oil. the shaft in the turbo is broken off inside the housing, theres no oil in the pan, nothing under the car (so it hasnt leaked) so thats why I made that ASSUMPTION.

if you had a spare motor, or could get ahold of one, it would be sweet. (and it has a new clutch also)

eastside has one. i think it has 80K on it, and he wanted like $750 for it.

look on www.car-part.com it was on there. someone also mentioned a JDM motor for it, and it was about the same $$$ after shipping, and it had a little more power, not to mention less miles.

i spotted one in raligh for $500 to. just look around on car-part.com

I currently own a 1987 Starion with a blown tranmission (automatic). Forward gears dont work : (. Good luck finding parts for this car it's near impossible :\. On a good note the car only cost me 250 : ).

Re:mint 1985 conquest!!!!!!!

whats a conquest, we don't have those here, same with these 'starion' cars ???

1337 12-07-2004 09:15 AM

Re:mint 1985 conquest!!!!!!!

also the boost gauge on the cluster is just a estimate as to how much boost you are receiving made by the computer maps. Best to rip it off and just stick a nice mechanical one in there

actually, i've found 2 or 3 websites with great forums and a lot of used parts in the classifieds section. also a write up on a 4g63 swap ;D

I dont know what the ---- 1337 is talking about, there is lots of info/parts online for these cars.

and spencer, yes, its pretty much the same as a starion.

in the same relation as a chevy s10/gmc sonoma (one in the same)

yeah, i was referring to used parts, that's why i'm thinking about a 4g swap if frank can get me that one from his friend, to have readily available aftermarket parts, not to mention, all i'd have to do is crank the boost up to about 20 psi on the stock 4g and be making some good power very easily, it would take a while to get done, honda is number 1 priority, but it would be a cool project that wouldn't be rushed.

Re:mint 1985 conquest!!!!!!!

4g63 swap is such a waste of time the ------- rods on this car are ginormous and thick, you already have 2 huge ass 1000cc injectors not to mention it's 2.6 liters of displacement compared to the 2 liter 4g. Only disadvantages i can think about this engine is the head (stupid jet valve) and small ass 12A turbo. Other than that you are set to really whip up on some ricer ass.

The 2.6 is slow.

Re:mint 1985 conquest!!!!!!!

So you're telling me you would rather go through the hassles of wiring in the entire EFI from a DSM find a custom bellhousing to adapt the motor to the transmission, or go the stupid route and custom fabricate all the mounts to stick the w58 toyota transmission in with a custom bellhousing and a custom driveshaft and a modified tranny tunnel. About the only advantage i can see with the 4g63 is the MPFI.

*high fives random-strike quickly washing hand with acid* hopefully in a week i can have my starion running and have a 14b 1g mas and water injected running 15 lb's, but for now time to save the pennies.

mpfi owns vacuum advanced dpfi, not to mention aftermarket support for the 4g as opposed to the 2.6, and it would be a cool swap. kind of like putting a k series in hathc, it's unneccesarry, but very nice ;)

Which ones are the most popular, since you have had one for a little while. I am getting ready to get some flanges cut to make turbo manifolds(to use a hybrid turbo or a T4)

so which ones should i make? 2.0 or 2.6?

nonvtec 12-08-2004 12:07 PM

Re:mint 1985 conquest!!!!!!!

Swapping a D for a K is incredibly sweet.
Swapping a 2.6 for a 2.0, eh...

A 14b turbo is definitely too small for that motor.

1337 12-08-2004 04:28 PM

Re:mint 1985 conquest!!!!!!!

the 12A is the smallest turbo mitsu makes i beleive and it's on the conquest. The swap for a 4g is ALOT more difficult than swapping a k series into a eg. A crapload of fabrication is required for that ---- to get in (as in there is no little mount kit you can buy). The only car fit for a 4g swap is the mighty max truck, that ---- would be pimp :)

baldur 12-08-2004 07:27 PM

Re:mint 1985 conquest!!!!!!!

Well the 2.6 is a truck engine made for the MMC Pajero. And in the stock Starion it's quite slow.
Tiny turbo, shitty heads, shitty intake manifold and shitty fuel injection.
That exact combo makes the 2.6 slow.
I'm not saying it can't be made fast by some clever modifications. I'm just saying that the 2.6 starion isn't any faster than the 2.0 starion, they only differ about 20hp when stock and the 2.0 starion is 400lbs lighter than the 2.6.
Don't get me wrong, I like the Starions but I think the mitsu 2.6 is an inefficient piece of ----.
