Default might sell my civic and get a ------ beetle

so my step sister had her mom buy this car for her like 2-3 years ago, and she was supposed to make the payments. and then she stopped making them. so my dad and stepmom took the car back and its been sitting in a garage for about 6 months. they just want to get rid of it so they dont have to carry the loan anymore. so i think im going to sell my honda and by this car.

before y'all flame its not just a gay little beetle, well maybe it is, but its the fast one. its a turbo s and is clean as ---- and has a/c and cup holders and dosent break all the time which is more then my honda.

does anyone know anything about that model because i dont want to get into a maintenance nightmare with this car. im not planning on working on it at all. i just want a car to drive so i can concentrate on my chevelle and nova projects. so yeah im rambling but what do you guys think of it?

I bought a brand new beetle in 2001 and sold it in 03 swearing I would never buy another newer VW. This POS was in the shop every 3 months from the get go. This is coming from someone who has owned over 25 VW's in the last 20 years - mostly aircooled and early watercooled. My neighbor across the street bought his wife a new 1.8t convertible beetle in 2004 and it ate the trans (automatic) within the first year, the top wold not close at 26,000km and had all the same electrical problems mine had. VW as a company and the dealer were not particularly helpful. If you are looking to replace a honda with a "more reliable vw" - that is not possible. Beetles specifically are chock full of electrical problems. Most VW models since 2000 are rated poorly by most resources as "not recommended". Consider this also.... the 1.8t which is in that beetle barely makes more HP than the B16 even though it has more displacement, more valves, a turbo and is about 15 years newer technology.

My advice is to run from that deal unless you really do some research on how bad of a car a new beetle is and you are okay with fixing it regularly.

from a bodyman standpoint i have to agree that they blow ***...i've had way too many bullshit little problems with these cars...they arent designed all that great and they do lack things...i would advise to keep that honda u got...if u r tired of fixin it drop in a bone stock motor...it would be better than having to zip-tie your grill on ur beetle every few weeks...

couldn't tell you about reliability, but I tore down a brand new one to pieces and the engineering and build quality is better, what you would expect from a german car.

01 up beetle 1.8t=178hp
94-01 integra gsr B18C1=170hp

Why does a engine with a turbocharger( at 11psi) and a extra intake valve and newer technology make only 8 more hp than a older N/A engine? I'm not a engineer by any means, but something does not seem right... stick with your beater honda and concetrate on your chevelle and nova (which are both ------- sick cars). The vw is just a giant dissopointment and headache

I think the vee-dub was more focused on more torque than horsepower. It's still some disappointing performance, especially for the pig **** car it is, but I bet it has a much fatter torque curve than the b18c1

well i talked with my dad today and the loan has 8500 left to be paid off. the car blue books for 14000. so im going to see if i can get it for like 9000-9500, worst case scenario i can sell it to someone and turn a quick profit.

and yeah, hp is nice and all but the honda torque curve sucks. i still would have to sell my honda before i could buy another car anyways, and i probally want to much for it.
