Why does a engine with a turbocharger( at 11psi) and a extra intake valve and newer technology make only 8 more hp than a older N/A engine? I'm not a engineer by any means, but something does not seem right... stick with your beater honda and concetrate on your chevelle and nova (which are both ------- sick cars). The vw is just a giant dissopointment and headache

all new beatles w/ the 1.8t have 150hp regardless of year except the turbo S which has 180 and a 6-speed trans.

and if you tell me its the same as a golf or jetta you are wrong again

a stock 180hp gti will pull on a stock GSR integra any day of the week, not by much but it will.

how do you expect to get chicks in a beetle ?

wouldn't be bad for a car to get and sell for another honda but i really couldn't drive one and not feel gay

point being that a newer car with supposedly better technology is running around the same with a car that is much older and having 11psi being pushed into it. I was using the 180hp model because I believe he mentioned it was the s version. My friends are all into vws and such, so I get to here about this stuff alot (though it is mostly vr stuff at that ).

And on a side note, I got a ride in a MKIII with a 1.8t (the 180hp model), and it was nothing to brag about, especially after getting rapped by a stock rsx. I'm not trying to be too hateful on vws, I like the older ones, like the MKI and MKII gtis, I was merely commenting on the reliability and performance of newer volkswagons. I'll stop now before this thread becomes a vw/honda argument

Just flip it for profit, then put money wither into the civic to make it more reliable, or into your chevelle/nova.

hmm.....i have heard about all the electrical "problems that 99 and up vw's suffer from, but my grandparents have an '01 bug, just the regular 4 cyl not the 1.8T, only time its had to go into the shop other then regular maintenance was when a crazy old bitch ran into it, i also know a guy with a '98 passat with the 1.8T not the most powerfull motor ever, but he's had no problems with reliability so far and he goes from bc to Saskatchewan aty least once a month, also it should get quite good gas mileage

the turbo S is a great car aside from looks and reliability. believe it or not the 180hp beetle will run circles around a GTI on a road course. one the of the best balanced FWD cars ever made, the middle of the seat bottom sits directly in the middle (front/rear) of the car, hense the huge dash.

and IDK what clown was driving the mkIII 1.8t but even with a crap 2.0 tras it will easily pull low 14's. stock mkIII GTI VR6's run 14.6-14.8 and make less power and weigh more than a 1.8t swapped mkIII

the electrical problems plague the mexican built cars and mostly 2.0's at that. the 1.8t has the coil prob and MAF and coolant temp sensors ---- the bed every 20k.
use an old 4cyl vanagon oil filter for extra oil cap (.6l more) and get rid of the plugs it comes with and get some ngk 7's gapped in the low 30's.

let me know if you get it, i work at 42draft designs now and might be able to get you a discount on a turbo back

he was rather competant, though he had a the ABA trans (020?). Which 2.0 are you talking about? the 2.0 8v? My A20 prelude is faster than a 2.0, though 1-2 are quicker than mine, though 3rd where my car pulls it, since the ABA has no top end. IDK, do what ever makes you happy....

020 trans suck ***** they break way to easy. even with a rabbit GTi final drive the ratios still suck
