Making subwoofers work when they are the wrong impedance

I've got a set of 12"s hooked up to my home theatre amplifier... the problem is that whenever i turn it up too loud the amp shuts off.

It took me a while but i figured out that it's because the subs are 4 ohm impedance and the amp is 8 ohms.

is there any way i can wire in some resistors or something so the subs will work with this amp?

got to wire them in series.

If you have two 4 ohm subs you can wire them in series to give an 8 ohm net load.

Yep. You'll lose the stereo capabilities of them, but who the ---- needs stereo subs?

Get a credit card and buy a 60 inch widescreen tv...

Re: Making subwoofers work when they are the wrong impedance

I'll probably pick up a big rear projection tv next year...

This tv was $20, all the speakers together were about $150, and my deck was $15. This is a pretty budget setup right now.

Re: Making subwoofers work when they are the wrong impedance

Why the hell would you buy old ass technology like a 60" rear projection tv?

Get an LCD or plasma flat panel, they're cheap now and they keep getting cheaper.

Re: Making subwoofers work when they are the wrong impedance

there's different levels of cheap. if I find a good deal on a flat screen I'll pick it up. No rush to get one, so I'm sure I'll find a good deal eventually

37" LCDs go for $600 on a good day

hmm.. didn't know that.

I guess one is closer in the future than I thought!

Re: Making subwoofers work when they are the wrong impedance

only prob with plat panel is their size to price ratio...
a 52" LCD with a 1080p resolution will run about 4,300
while you can get a 50' sxrd 1080p rear lcd projection for less than 2g's
