Sounds like a $500 lesson learned, we have all been down roads similar to this one. I would count the cost : Do I have the time and effort to get the situation resolved? (I sued Honda for charging me for a recall and won-but- I was also laid off at the time)
(make sure you have no warrants before going to PD :1) Is the said car worth reposessing?

Do you have pics of the car? like the turbo kit and all that extra ----? Becuase the car is still yours and he blew the motor and sold the kit, he owes you more than just $1000. You could get a new (brand new, not used) motor and reimbursment for the turbo kit and accessories if you can prove it was all in good working order when he took it. Check that stuff cuz you could come out of this with a lot more than what you went into it with.

Well, right now I'm suing for $2080 ($1000 remaining on contract for car and $1080 for late fees) PLUS my car (or another EF hatch) with the same parts that I had on it when he got it.

I got lots of pics for the judge
a play-by-play of how everything went down, including how the guy avoided me like the plague
a list of all mods, including approx labor for each part install and street price

I've got a few things in my favor.
a) the contract. Although shittily written and not notarized, the defendant is an adult and knew what he was getting himself into when he signed.
b) the witness for the contract is gonna come with me to court. Not a huge extra but he's pre-law and knows stuff.
c) The defendant is one of those people where in court you can just sit back and let 'em lose the case for themself.

I mean....when I confronted the guy he was like 'Whaaa?? I dont owe you ----. The car broke and you broke it' (alluding to the time I tried to help him fix it but was unsuccessful..which was waaaay after the due date for the remainder of the cash and well into late-fine territiory. Who uses 80 butt-end connectors to install a set of ECU connectors

I didnt read through all of this, but I had almost the exact same thing happen to me. I sold a beater EF to a friend, and he ended up only giving me 400 out of 600 dollars. The police department said I could report it stolen, but before I did I gave him one more chance, and the same lies, etc.

Then some kid comes to my house at midnight one night saying he bought the car and wanted the title. Anyways it was one huge clusterfuck, and I ended up just selling the title to the guy who loaned the original owner the money to pay back the guy who bought it second (he spent all the money on oxycontins), and he went and stole the car.

Either way, I hope that wasnt too hard to understand without getting into names and such, but I was told by the WA police that the car could be reported stolen. Although you will probably be liable if impounded.

Damn that is fucked up.

I went to the police department once and the sheriff department twice, trying to report the car stolen but they said because he had paid SOME that it couldnt be considered a stolen car. Totally gay.

Dont worry about the car getting impounded. It has no motor, trans, probably seats, turbo, ecu. It aint goin nowhere.

thats totally bullshit. Since it is still your car you can legally go pick it up. Did you tell the cops that he breached the contract and now you want YOUR car back since it is titled in your name?
