Maaco has been around for years and years, I think they are one of the first national chain body shops. I have had cars with their paint jobs before, expect about 2 years of the car looking good, but after that then I can't promise much with their cheap-o paint service.

IMO many factory paints are better then any paint job that is running you under $800. If you want to get some dirt on the body shop, go get some estimates around at other places, they will talk a lot of ---- about each other.. just how the business goes.

When I was in jax last year, my brother was getting exhaust installed on his GST (no, I didn't have any tools with me or I would have been the one doing it) and the morons didn't have the lift all the way to the ground and it ripped the front spoiler. He took it to Sterling and I think they charged the exhaust man like $700 for bumper cover and paint. Decent job, but if it was my fuckup I would have just repaired it myself with fiberglass filler and had someone shoot it.

The best paint job for the money you will find is the little small shops that are privately owned that you never hear about, I have friend in jax who paints locomotives for a living but told me he would do a laquer job on one of my cars for me (he used to own many body shops). Just look around and make sure to check out their work since you're paying out of pocket and the insurance company isn't covering it.

Thanks for all of you that responded. Well, since I plan on staying with my rex for a while I think I will take quadnie advice and go looking for small shops and see if they can give me a good deal.

they just recently painted this one here is salem!
it turned out alright, but you get what you payed for! The body work was exceptional though!

only one bad spot on the whole car. And it is barely noticeable. 549.00 8 hrs of body labor!

Just do the body work yourself. Strip the bitch down to primer or metal, then add some spray caint primer on that ----. Get it all nice and ready for the body shops. Best idea would be to talk to them first, see what they want and ----. Usually they will let you work on it first, especially if it's just paint work.

When I had an accident in the back of one of my volvos, it was a corner impact so a real bitch of a wound to the car. The shop I took it to just put it on the stretch machine, and got it stretched out good. Charged me a couple hundred and let me fill in and smooth it out myself, then I never got it painted.. then I totalled the car out. Point is, do as much as you can yourself.

mattssi- Looks clean. This makes me consider maaco again.

quadnie- Yeah thats what I was thinking and I already sanded it down. Hopefully it will save me some money.
