Re:LS/vtec or B20vtec which is a better swap
Ls/vtecs and Crvtecs are more or less the same thing. I'll make it simple, a Stock Crvtec (all motor) vs a LS/vtec (all motor) would put out more power and torque. However if you were to boost both these applications, yes the b20 will make more power, but not safely. The Crvtec uses mono/sami style sleeves, which are weak for boost, and if detonation occurs you will crack all the sleeves at once, and the block is pretty much junk.
B18a/b and a B20b/z Have identicle bottom ends, other than the b20's have 84mm pistons, and the goofy casting of the cylinders. http://dwolsten.tripod.com/articles/jan96a.html I personally would go for a ls/vtec, I would sleep better at night knowing I'm going to be safe running 22 degrees on the top end 8) Jeff |
Re:LS/vtec or B20vtec which is a better swap
i'm not going to boost right off the bat cus i wan to go all motor and beat a few cars with it and than later consider boosting.

LS/Vtec...

Re:LS/vtec or B20vtec which is a better swap
why ls/vtec? i thought the b20vtec would be better if i wanted the torque cus i'm going to put it in my integra.

a sleeved b20 would be the best :D

Once you sleeve a B20, you start with 81mm, which would turn your big bad boy 2.0l into a 1.8l again. All aftermarket sleeves for b-series start with 81mm bore. So if you sleeve a B18 or a B20 you have the exact same thing. A sleeved GSR or ITR would be the best. btw, it cost extra to sleeve b20's because they have homosleeves, and thats why most people prefer to sleeve B18's. Jeff |
Re:LS/vtec or B20vtec which is a better swap
thanx jeff..i was not aware of that
|
Re:LS/vtec or B20vtec which is a better swap
i wasn't aware of that either and thanks for the info but i'm going to stick with all motor with the b20 swap if i do go with it.

Re:LS/vtec or B20vtec which is a better swap
If your going to stick with All motor, go b20.. I wouldnt hit it with any nitrous at all either.
I can count off 5 people local (including myself) who have had b20's that have cracked sleeves when going Turbo or Nitrous. I suppose a mild setup on a b20 wouldnt be to bad, with some real conservitive timing on the top end would be fine. But me personally I would just end up blowing it up because thats the way I am. I just keep pushing and pushing until they are dead. Boost feels good :-\ |
Re:LS/vtec or B20vtec which is a better swap
i'm not going to use nitrous or boost cus i don't get boost happy especially if its going to cost me the swap,or i can just go ls/vtec cus paz is selling me a great deal with a b16a head.

Re:LS/vtec or B20vtec which is a better swap
i still say go for an all motor LS/vtec with ITB's and type R cams, or spoon, mugen or skunk, hell even ZEX makes good cams.

Re:LS/vtec or B20vtec which is a better swap
eventually i'm going to go turbo but first i want to stay all motor so i can see if i beat a gs-r so if i do i can point and laugh at it when i come back around.than its boost baby yeeeeeeaaaaaaa

Re:LS/vtec or B20vtec which is a better swap
On second thought a cam and some ITB's would be pretty cool.

Re:LS/vtec or B20vtec which is a better swap
while i dont have the idea fresh in my head, I belive you have to take the 84mm cylinder bore going into the 81mm combustion area of the head into consideration.
Ive heard people say leaving it as is is better and other saying match porting it is best. I say get whatever is cheaper. |
