Default LOW COMPRESSION ON B16 ... PLEASE HELP !?!?!?!

well i did a compression test last night on my b16 ..iwas told that a stock b16 should blow atleast 190 .. i just built the motor about 3000 miles ago with my brother ...
cylinder one blew: 170
cylinder two blew: 190
cylinder three blew:175
cylinder four blew: 170

the things that i dont under stand is it leaks hardly any coolant like a dime sized spot on my tranny (right on the casing where it meets the block and the block meets the head..right in that corner) car does not smoke at all even all the way up too 8200.. no smoke !>!>! i dont see how the head gasket can be blown aand not smoke and have no coolant in the oil ... maybe piston blow by i dont know alot about it so i might sound stupid for asking ...i should blow hella high on the compression gauge cause i have ctr pistons with a slighty milled head and a decked block ..so i should at least 210 ish on all four .. can any one help me figure out the problem also what make me thinks its not the head gasket... i did a compression check 3 weeks ago and it blew the same ive beat the ---- out it for the last three weeks and compression is still the same on all four ... its not the gauge either cause we did my buddys sohc and he a 200 all the way across .. i took all the plugs out floored the gas started at cyl. one then went 2-3-4 .. any info is appreciated

Head gaskets blow all sorts of ways. Sometimes they just leak externally, or transfer fluids in one direction only. Or just intermittantly overheat for no obvious reason.

You can determine where you are losing compression by running compressed air into a cylinder at TDC and listening for where the air-escaping-hissing is the loudest; valvecover, intake, exhaust, etc.

werd ... ill try the air compessor trick .. ps car runs great just doesnt pull as hard as it was and low compression readings doesnt overheat at all ... i can drive it around all day and rest my hand all the valve cover no prob..

do you have any blow by or smoke of any sort out of the car at any time? does it burn any oil that you can notice? any coolant in the oil, or oil in the coolant? if none of that, i wouldn't worry about it, but chances are you're rings didn't seat good or your hg is leaking a little

hope you have somekinda of fuel management in that using the ctr pistions did raise you compressiong quite a bit espeicaly with the head being shaved. if you didn't do some kind of fuel mod you probably are running way lean and have burned either burned your rings or ovaled you cylinders from extream heat. in my ls/vtec with ctrs I get like 220 psi across the board COLD something def wrong. if you do have your fuel needs fixed def check you head gasket.

well i replaced the head gasket last weekend and the new number are

cyl 1: 155
cyl 2: 180
cyl 3: 150
cyl 4: 155

so its not the h/g .. i doubt its piston blow by or the rings not getting set becouse the car doesnt smoke at all not at idle and not at 8200 .. the car still pulls decent (3rd gear chirps) i think its still getting third gear chirps cause the timing is off .. like its lose'n high end power so when i shift from top end of second into third its chirps cause its finally getting mid range (in third) again... which makes me think .. maybe we are setting the timing wrong and when im doing the compression check the valves are open there for not building up high cr numbers on the gauge .. i also bought a new gauge to see if that was the peoblem and that wasn't it ... i tried the oil thing in the combustion chamber and the numbers stayed the same so i dont see how it is rings ... some one please help i dont know wtf too do. p.s. i dont have fuel management other than a fpr and a a/f gauge which is set decently rich and ignition timing on the dissy is decently advanced

Could be bad valve seat clearances. :-P
