AK-47 is the absolute best bang for the buck.

Re: looking to invest in a new rifle... opinoins?

If your used to a 410 and a .22 then you should upgrade to a old school m44 (can be found for close to $40 at pawn shops) or maybe a good used 30.06

Re: looking to invest in a new rifle... opinoins?

M44's are awesome but thats if you want a short bolt action, but like i said if your looking for some semi-auto AK47 will be your best bet.

Re: looking to invest in a new rifle... opinoins?

for ak's get either a converted saiga (sporterized from factory), saiga ak (ak from factory), or a norinco ak/mac 90 (some of the nicest ones but get a stamped receiver)
saiga $250 ($300 converted)
http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:.../My_Saiga..jpg
saiga ak $450
http://elitefirearms.net/db4/00329/e...s/saiga762.jpg
norinco stamped $500-1000
http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/7053/aks2pq2.jpg

dont even waste your time on wasr 10's, hungarian, mahdi, bulgarian, or any other 3rd world country's ak variants. i presonally stay away from milled receivers becuase that is not staying tur to kalishinkov (although his first ones were milled).

Re: looking to invest in a new rifle... opinoins?

check your local big 5 or whatever your local area sports store is for m44's. Big 5 frequently has those m44 mosin nagets on sale for $89. This plus 400 rounds of surplus ammo for $65'ish and your going to be having some fun for a while. The muzzle flash that comes out of these things is nothing short of amazing. Not to mention its just about the loudest thing you can shoot to. Always get looks when I take it out.

http://gallery.drfaulken.com/d/1878-1/IMGP0339_0001.jpg

Also if you want an ak and dont give a ---- about needing to own a nice one just get the wasr-10 there on sale all the time for about $399. Ive seen for $350 to but thats pretty rare. They spray paint the receiver black and the wood is ----. But its a damn ak so it will work as intended for ------- ever.

Re: looking to invest in a new rifle... opinoins?

yeah an m44 is a bog gun in a little package. fun to shoot but after a while it will wear out your arm. good gun though. im not too into bolt action, but i love this one.

I ordered two of these parts kits about a week ago: http://www.centerfiresystems.com/ind...OD&ProdID=1660

$20 for a new receiver and $60 in compliance parts and you've got yourself a fully functional AK.

the m44 is the carbine version of the 91/30, everything is exactly the same untill you get to the barrel which is longer.
i have 1 m44 and 2 91/30, get one with matching serial numbers throughout the whole rifle, you are more likely to have good headspace that way. swapped bolts could be deadly.

+1 on everything except the part about milled receivers (T3?) and Bulgarian guns. But maybe I'm a little biased...

Arsenal makes some very nice AK clones, but the finish is pretty shitty...As soon as Matt at Ironwood Designs is a little less busy, it'll be getting a proper laminate stock set.

Sure the SLR-95 is a bit of a bastard AK (nuetered -74 gas block, totally unique forged receiver and the fish-gill muzzle brake) but it's been good to me and was a good deal as far as milled AKs go at $553 OTD. Takes standard hi-cap mags from the factory, the only shitty parts are the lack of a lower stock tang, no bayonet lug and a fixed muzzle device. But you can get stock sets made specially for it or install a lower tang, remove and thread the barrel if you really want a different brake and in the end...who needs a bayonet on an AK? It's a ------- Kalashnikov, beat em to death with it! :y

From what I've learned, don't try to build one from a parts kit unless you (or someone you know) has all the right tools to do it properly...---- gets fucked up easy.

Oh, and Mosins are fun too...

i think an AK might be my next gun, well after i sell my glock and get the S&W, but rifle wise. and i could give a ---- what kind it is as long as it has that light blonde wood and shoots the same rounds. call me a ricer or whatever but pretty sure they all can put the bullets downrange

Re: looking to invest in a new rifle... opinoins?

Everyone that said AK is right. AK47 from nearly every origin are cheap to purchase, cheap to shoot, and fun as hell. ISMOS russians are my personal favorites. Bump fire, hell yeah. Here in wisconsin you can purchase full auto variations. YAY! But IMO, Save youe pennys and get something that will actually hit what your aiming at. Examples: Soacom 16 chambered in .308 or any off the rack AR15 .223 Both of these weapons are cheap to shoot, easily upgraded, and a hell of alot funner to fire. Its always funner to waste ammunition when you hit what you're shooting at. You can pick up an AR15A2 version for around 750, cheaper if you build it on your own. Soacom 16 on the other hand is a couple grand. Happy Shooting.
