Default Looking to get a compressor and air tools. Need advice

I want air tools. I'd don't want to buy throw-away crap, but I also don't want to spend $800-1000.

I'd like to be able to use impact, paint gun, body tools. It seems like the random orbital and die grinder are what really suck up the air.

It's going to be outside the garage, in an insulated box, so I don't really care how loud it is.

I've been looking at Sears, Lowe's, HomeDepot, and Harbor Freight.

This Harbor Freight one seems like a real bargain.

Harbor freight 60gal. $330
You think this would do me good for shadetree type wrenching?

Why is it $200 cheaper than the Craftsman?

http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...+%26+Inflators
Sears $500.

I will be getting air tools slowly as funds allow. Are there any tools where there really isn't any big difference in quality between the good stuff and the cheap stuff. Sanders, air ratchets, die grinders.

My buddy has a ingersoll-rand 2135ti impact gun and it is *******. I'm tempted to get the pimp gun. Are there any guns that work good, that aren't $200?

Looking for any input, reccommendations of cheaper tools that aren't garbage.

Thanks.

buy the ---- good the first time, trust me.
Definitely get a good 60 gal compressor, and look into snap on impacts, that one is good but snap on is better, but the one you showed is prob. the best other than them, I wouldn't get the harbor freight comp. either. Chevk out home depot, husky. I think IR makes them. and they're not that expensive

Get an ingersoll Rand impact man. Do not go cheap on these things as the lifetime and power will go way down. As far as an air grinder.. pick up one of the harbor freight $15 ones. the compressor is kind of a toss up. You can go with harbor frieghts if theres on close to you, then you can buy the warranty and return if the compressor fins and other things go bad. Otherwise you can just pick up a nice one from sears to begin with, wait for their xmas sale.

DO NOT go with that craftsman compressor. I had the exact same one and went through 4 of them in less than 6 months. I finally told them to ---- off and got my money back. They are crap. As far as the gun goes, I have the IR 2135ti and its great. I bought a couple cheap ones before that trying to save money, but you get what you pay for.

I personally really like the husky I have.. You will also want to invest in an oiler for the airtools.. and an air dryer(anything from the simple catch can things(good for airtools).. to a all out dryer(great for automotive painting).

harbor freight is good money/usage ratio, i use a few harbor freight air tools and they've yet to break on me. But on the other hand there are a few guys at my work that have went through their tools fairly quickly. If you don't use them Alot and theres a store near you where you can return them when they break, then get them. But if you want the tools to take abuse and last forever then get you some craftsman or snap on.

The compressor also includes an efficient Solberg style intake filter, pre-plumbed globe valve, pressure switch, and tank pressure gauge.

I like the three year warranty. But that Harbor Freight one claims to flow 13CFM at 90psi, vs the Husky 10CFM at 90psi. Bullshit numbers?

I want the Ingersoll, but can't really throw down $800

18.0 CFM at 90psi

What compressor do you have now? I think I am going to get the 2135ti.

Yeah, I'm pretty tempted to get the Harbor Freight. If I get 5 years out of it, I'd be happy. In the meantime I would slowly collect nice air tools. My work has nice tools, that I can borrow, so I don't need to run out and buy everything at once.

my 2 cents:
Get a 2 stage compressor like those 60 gal ones shown. You will not regret it.
I got this craftsman sideways single stage compressor-I think it is 10 gal. It is reliable for me BUT: it runs out of air pretty fast and is obnoxiously loud. Use a diegrinder and it is on in like 5 seconds and the tool uses up the air. It is NO good for serious painting for the same reason. On the other hand it is a great help and the air tools function properly. But it was not free. So may as well pay a little more and get something you won't regret. I kick myself for not getting the proper one to begin with. I had no idea how much I would wind up using all the different air tools. The cost of the tools themselves is pretty cheap-so BUY A GOOD COMPRESSOR
