Rogers Communications Inc. announced Wednesday it launched its latest wireless network in Montreal.

The Long Term Evolution, or LTE network, is capable of data transfer speeds higher than what is offered by most current home Internet plans.

At a demonstration in Montreal, executives from the network showed a speed test that showed download speeds of 100 megabits per second, and up to 40 megabits per second upload speeds. The maximum theoretical download speed at this point is 150 Mbps.

Rogers sells one cellular phone that uses LTE technology - the Samsung Galaxy S II, and one tablet - the HTC Jetstream. It also sells a Rocket Internet stick that can be connected to the USB port of a computer, and a wireless hot spot - the Sierra Wireless AirCard, which creates a mobile hot spot for up to five Wi-Fi devices. If consumers want access to the faster speeds, they'll have to shell out more on their wireless plans. Rogers has upped its data plans for the LTE network.

Monthly plans start at $47.93 for a limit of two gigabytes, and then go to $62.93 for four gigabytes, $77.93 for six gigabytes, and &92.93 for nine gigabytes. Those plans don't include phone calls.
