Hybrids ftl. You get more mileage out of them when you take out the electronic bits, batts included. What we need to do is stop making bigger safer vehicles. Safety and comfort are the reasons cars get heavier and thus need more power to move comparably to older versions. ----, the CVCC got what... 45 to 50mpg.. 30 years ago? It's not rocket science. Light car weight = fuel efficiency. Corn isn't even a good source of ethanol man. A ton of corn makes less ethanol than 100lb of cane sugar. And you know what the kicker is? The price of sugar has been $.43 a pound for 50 years, even with South American countries using it for fuel production. Corn also requires enzymes to convert to usable sugar first before it can be fermented. If ethanol is an option grains aren't the way.

sugar cane prices are subsidized in the us. the world price for sugar cane is around 12 cents per pound. This is why nestle is the largest candy producer and hershy can no longer keep up.

Even so at the world cost of $.12 a lb it takes 100lbs to make 9gall of pure ethanol.. which can be diluted to 175 proof or even lower with water and still be run. So you're talking $12 for 11-12 gallons of ethanol at world prices. Do you think you can get 3 tons of corn for $12 to make that much alcohol? Cane > grain.

yeah, easily. Ethanol in the US is just mostly the farmers lobbying to make more money since they cant compete like they want to in a true market.

lets just face the facts that ethonal sucks ***, and is bad are creating power.

you'll have to use a bunch more of it, to do the same thing. and a lot more energy to produce and refine it.

more burnt fuel, more emissions.

this simple fact proves that the envirowackos arent conearned about "the environment" as much as they are conearned with controlling you

The first statements are pretty true. The last 2 are false. First of all, emissions is based on how much of a substance you are emitting in parts per million or billion. It's a real time reading. So if the ppm or ppb is lower, the car burns cleaner. It's just that simple. As for envirowackos, not really again. The reason we use ethanol is because we can grow corn and Americans want to move towards energy independence. It's the governments bullshit that keeps corn prices too ------- high and our environment that doesn't allow us to grow a ton of sugar cane. If we could grow a ton of sugar cane in the US and it wasn't subsidized at a stupid rate, ethanol would be a lot more efficient as stated above.

Ethanol isn't a bad fuel as it is renewable, better for the environment, and can be grown stateside. It's just not great for us because we are using corn to make the ethanol and thus makes it less efficient. Remove the government subsidizing corn growth and prices will drop and everyone will be happier.

i heard somehwere if we grew corn on every acre availiable for farming, we wouldn't even be able to supply half our demand

finally, johnny says something credible. currently, corn production can only supply 14-15 million gallons of ethanol, where the US consumes a total of 125 million gallons of gas. you can make alcohol out of trash.. yet they won't. who wants gas that doesnt smell like gas? :1
