so if I totaled my car and the insurance company cuts me a check for less the money put into the car, would they let me remove everything thats not stock on the car? eg. motor/tranny, ecu, turbo, stereo etc. ?

They aren't going to tell you "hey, go strip that fucker down", but yeah, they really don't do anything about it. I've never heard of anything coming of it.

Wow, some people can't/don't bother to read. Good score man. When I dusted the radiator on my ninja with the front tire, I had a guy pull his flatbed over to help. He was like "What happened?" I told him the story and showed him the turbo and he was blown away. (He ride motorcycles too, I think his name was Spider or Bug or something) He was hauling a car to the auction and I rode with him to make the delivery. Then we went back and picked up the bike and took it to my house. He only charged me $60.00. If you ever read this, thanks brother. :6

Impound lot = organized crime

Insurance/freelance tow truckes = Help from the heavens (especially when you're dunk and stack your car in a snowbank :-X)

sorry i neglected to read the whole thread. Yeah both of my uncles are tow truck drivers. one is a class a driver for Mary's towing in everett. And the other is a class B driver/owner of pillchuck towing, so to those of you who need the help. give either a call. both are honest good working guys. Tell em Their nephew Justin sent ya.

ive gotten the same tow by the same guy 2 times (both times my ignitor quit and i didnt have a spare) and he was the nicest tow driver i ever met. was tellling me stories about random ----, old trucks, etc, it was hilarious, but i'm pretty sure he was sauced :-\

i've towed a few cars with my toyota with nothing but a tow rope (pontiac 6000, '78 bonneville with a 455, a tempo) and made like 50 bucks between all of them. im lucky i didnt get arrested for any of it, 20ft rope is only about 7 feet off my bumper when its anchored to tow points :l :l and the township ive done these in, is the one that is trying to arrest me for any given thing they can find. but yeah, lots of towtruck drivers take it upon themselves to tow ---- while paperwork is being done, or get deadies off of highways (i counted 5 or 6 in a 10 mile stretch on rt28 last night) and im sure they'll be gone with no notice to the owner by the weekend
