Leaky del Sol...anyone else have this prob?

I'm having the worst time dealing with my del Sol. It used to just leak through the windows, but now it leaks from the whole roof. The whole freaking thing just dumps down in the car. It's not the seals, I had them checked out, it has something to do with the body not being straight.
Any suggestions? Besides carrying lots of towels and wearing a raincoat---I do that already. :(
Stupid jerks that sold the car to me should feel VERY BAD about themselves! >:(

when i had one i just made sure the seales were lubed with silicone grease... it still leaked on the driver and passenger side though in heavy rain ??? like right on the front part of the roof on the right and left corners.

maybe you should try new seals

Re:Leaky del Sol...anyone else have this prob?

That's EXACTLY where mine leaks the worst. A new set of seals is $700. I don't want to spend that. I'll try the silicone though.
Anyone in Arizona or California want to buy a black del Sol SI with low, low miles??? It needs to be in the sun!

Re:Leaky del Sol...anyone else have this prob?

I'm telling ya, just get some chunks of weather stripping and put it all over the seals. It will help out alot. :)

Re:Leaky del Sol...anyone else have this prob?

lubing up the seals might help ya. it will certainly quiet the car up when the roof is on. let me guess your door handles have wrinkles right above them too?

Blondee 01-06-2003 02:56 PM

Re:Leaky del Sol...anyone else have this prob?

Crazy---the passenger side door has the wrinkles! And it's REALLY loud on the freeway. I would love to quiet it down. But what about in the summer when I want to take the roof off? Will that matter then?

Her car is a mess, it has been wrecked and her gaps in the roof are huge. If her lazy boyfriend could take care of it, she would be fine.... ::)

I think he thinks my car is beyond repair and he knows I'm going to sell it, so he doesn't want to put any money into it. Ya, true that though, he is lazy! :-\

Oh thanks Beau---that would be a really good selling point!

I took the top off yesterday and liked the car again, but it smells a little musty now. :(

i heard that when you put power steering fluid on to any rubber seals, that it will make them swell up, is this true, and if so then could it be used to make the seals around doors and windows tighter?

Re:Leaky del Sol...anyone else have this prob?

i heard of brake fluid making rubber swell specifically rubber seals. i also heard a couple people say to put some brake fluid in auto trannys that are going bad it makes em run good for a couple weeks just to sell a car... i guess thats one of those sleasy used car salemen tacktics... but being so close to paint i wouldnt want to do that if any gets on the paint it might eat it up...

my 2 cents

Re:Leaky del Sol...anyone else have this prob?

How much are you selling it for?

Blondee 01-07-2003 02:43 PM

Re:Leaky del Sol...anyone else have this prob?

I'd like to get $6,000 out of it.
It's a 1995 Si with (well, now it has) 84,000 miles on it. It has a spoiler, tinted windows, power everything, and a top end Clifford Alarm---The Intelligard 8000. (tilt sensor, proximaty sensor, rear window up and down, and trunk pop all on the remote.) It's clean, and it's been taken care of by me
It Blue Books for about $9,000, so I figure, I'd put up with some leaks to save 3 grand!

::) maybe if it was a B16a....

Blondee 01-07-2003 02:50 PM

Re:Leaky del Sol...anyone else have this prob?

Whatever Frank! I paid more than that for it, so why not??? It's technically worth more than that. AND B16s go for a lot more than $6000.

Whatever! My car is a piece of crap!!! And BTW---when I took my car to you when I was going to buy it---racing stripes and all---you said it was CRAP, and WHAT A SHITTY DEAL. So this is your fault. And Brett's and Adam's...you all didn't know! ;) And you should have.

Re:Leaky del Sol...anyone else have this prob?

LOL!!!! Settle down E. Just face it, your car sucks as bad as mine. It is the black car syndrome. Look at Beau's car, it has never not smoked. Just cause you can theoretically take two showers in the morning when it is raining isnt necessarily a bad thing :) You'll be alright. At least you now realize that it is crap.

Brett

Blondee 01-07-2003 03:10 PM

Re:Leaky del Sol...anyone else have this prob?

Whatever! my car does NOT suck! Maybe a shower in the car isn't a bad idea for some people anyway! And besides, even you thought I was getitng s great deal on a nice del Sol when I bought it.

BlackDSM 01-07-2003 03:17 PM

Re:Leaky del Sol...anyone else have this prob?

I didnt know that the freakin car had been twisted in circles before you bought it. Crashed in a ditch my ass, more like dropped from an airplane then fixed. It seemed like a good car, especially for the miles. Then again it would have been cooler if you left the racing stripes on. :P

Re:Leaky del Sol...anyone else have this prob?

Ah yes, but what car hasn't been in an accident??? Mine's really not that bad. (Brett, you're going to ruin my chances my selling it! :)

Re:Leaky del Sol...anyone else have this prob?

Just thought I'd post the update on this del sol. On Sunday, Adam weather stripped the HELL out of my car. On the front and back of the removable part of the roof where it meets the car, and then inside both of the door frames where it leaks the most.

I drive 405 to work everyday, and it's always hella loud, so I have to turn the radio WAY up to cover the wind noise...today it was just on a regular volume, and I could hear it just fine! It was also my turn to park outside in the driveway, it rained...and DIDN'T leak!
WOO HOO!

So there is hope afterall! ;)

Has yours ever been wrecked? Mine has (even though I was told it wasn't) and I think that's why. You're lucky though---it's a HUGE pain!

Turbodelsolman 01-13-2003 01:22 PM

Re:Leaky del Sol...anyone else have this prob?

I feel your pain. I have a 1993 del sol and i live in az.. so it doesnt rain that much.. but when it does it is no fun to drive. Mine leaks in right in the middle of the window.. just flows down fromt he t top to the weather stripping and just leaks in... its because the glass just leans against the weatherstripping on the t top vs. other cars where the glass goes between to sides of weatherstripping... but ya.. i heard a weather stripping kit is like 400 dollars through honda.. if it rained here more in arizona i might be more inclined to purchase it... but trust me.. i know exactly what ur talking about.

Re:Leaky del Sol...anyone else have this prob?

I was thinking about taking my car down to AZ and selling it there. How much did you pay for yours? What are the details of it? Si? Mileage, etc...
