launching your boosted honda at the track
Well i just installed a turbo kit in my civic this weekend, and when i launch it on teh street there is absolutley no traction in first and second, but it feels liek it pulls really hard when it catches. So what do u guys do to get decent traction on street tires? im gonna be running it this sat. on kumho ecsta supras.

Re:launching your boosted honda at the track
At the track people normally run slicks.. those CUMHO tires you have are going to smoke nicely, I have a set on my car, and can roast 1-2-3 easily. Dont be a idiot and pull your car in the water box and do a burnoff either, lots of people with street tires pull in the water box, and I could never understand why they do that with radials. You may want to drop the tire pressure down a bit, but it really isnt going to help much.
Slicks and LSD will be the only 2 things that will really help. Do lots of practice before you go, I use to always take my girlfriend on a unused road, and do tons of practice launchs to really get the feel, and find out what rpm is best to launch at, and best to shift at. Jeff |
Re:launching your boosted honda at the track
ive spotted some luanch problems with my car. as i sort them out ill post my finding and solutions here so you huys can check them out. slicks are nice but they are making smaller drag radials and i think they could be useful.

Drag radials are good for one thing... street racing & thats it.. On the track they suck ass. If you want a good time, you need to get yourself a decently sized slick. I have 3 sets of wheels, my street tires when I cruise... my drag radials when I street race... and my slicks when I race. |
Re:launching your boosted honda at the track
hey jeff, what kind of tures are those in the pic? slicks or just some bald ass drag radials? which tires, nitto or bfgoodrich?

Re:launching your boosted honda at the track
I think the only thing you can do with street tires is take off like normal. If you try higher rpm, you'll spin easier. Use lag to your advantage and get going a little bit before boost gets up. This is especially true if the track uses VHT for funnycars and ---- because that stuff is awfully slippery on street tires. Like mud bogging in rubber and VHT. I know my car hooks up better on the street because it actually gets torque steer but not on VHT at the strip. Ghey.

Re:launching your boosted honda at the track
i was looking into useing airbags in the rear of the car at the trac or when well racing. i had a good chassis guy look into the problem he says if you raise the rear of my car ( should be similar on other impoorts trhat are fwd.) it would move the pivot point forward enough to keep the wiegth transfer fiarly minimal on luanch. so im gonna give that a try. if it works out ill post what parts i used and where to get them. wish me luck.
sure beats the hell out off 500ppi springs for a street driver. |
