Default A last chance at helpful advice...

..before I rip my hair out trying to figure out why my exhaust smells so bad at idle and cruise.

It's a b16 with a t3, 450 injectors with a vafc set at -40% below 3,000 rpm. My timing is 12 deg tdc for vafc compensation. When I start the car up, and let it idle, I want to puke from the toxic smelling fumes. I get no smoke...if any at all sometimes a very small white whisp here and there at idle. My coolant level and oil level stay good, my compression is perfect. Looking at my tail pipe you can see build up of a substance. Wiping it with a white cloth leaves a black smear with hints of neon yellowish green wetness. Can this be fuel and not coolant?

Its starting the car up, driving behind it, or coming to a traffic light that is almost untolerable. Its a very toxic smell...I would think it smells like fuel.

I do not have a catalayic converter just a straight back, do cats also reduce smells greatly? Do all cat-less cars smell like ----?

My only thoughts are that maybe an injector is stuck open, or my retarded timing is igniting the fuel way to late? if it was oil I would get black, blue, or gray smoke with exhaust smelling this bad right?

Any suggestions are welcome.

I have this problem in a non-cat exhaust. I just got used to it, and drove with the windows down.

-40% below 3k rpm. Why would there be such a rich mixture that my tailpipe builds up wetness of black and yellow neon ---- if it is fuel? My egt is 800 at idle, and 1150 cruising at 45 mph around 2700 rpm. I don't have a wideband unfortunately. Would anything other then fuel make a moist coating inside your tail pipe like I have described.

You guys act like this is a common problem with hmt's lol,...theres no way I could live with this stink, it chokes me up even though its smokeless.
