laptop geeks please read

okay so i bought a laptop, n i want it at its maximum performance level for gaming n such, you know live editing n reading during tuning. so i decide i want atleast some more ram. it came with 2x512mb ddr pc2700 200-pin. i am wondering if i HAVE to get the same "speeds" such as the pc2700? im sure the 200-pin part matters. but can i say put a pc4200 or pc3200 ram in my computer? or does it have to be completely the same everything except its mb... thanks

speed doesnt really matter too much. sometimes hardware is picky though, so if i was you and if was gonna spend osme money on a laptop, and then shell out some more on ram, i would make sure that its identical to the one you have except the memory size.

adding more ram wont make your computer any faster or handle any more information. I could switch back and fourth between 1 gig and 3 gigs and not notice a diffrence in my computer.

i know i need it when playing world of warcraft or guild wars, having more memory helps. i already noticed the difference between 512 n 1g, so why wouldn't 2g help smoothen it out any more?

512 to 1 makes a diffrence. but you dont notice much between 1+ unless your running a faster ram like ddr400. but your board probably isint made to run at that speed so it will just default the speed of of the ram down to ddr333 (what your running at now).

i appreciate ur help with that, but thats not even the question i asked. wether or not you think having 2gb helps or even makes a diference, i want 2gb of ram. my computer currently has 512gbx2 pc2700 ddr 333mhz ram. i want 1gbx2 n i found some on sale locally or even online at different speeds tho, like pc3200 or pc4200 so im wondering if i put those in will they work? i dont care if my system default the speeds to pc2700 or what not, i jus wanna kno if they work cuz there onsale lol

all memory is backwards compatible. I.E. pc3100 will work in a pc2100 machine
