keyed lugnuts?

Yeah so the project car I bought has some gay flower/star shaped keyed lugnuts, one on each rim, on it, and guess what? I don't have the ------- key. :7

Now a lot of people are thinking borrow one right? Well it seems there are many variation of this type of lugnut. some have a slightly flat side (like my mom's key for her millenia) and these on the civic seem to have one side with a point. The wheels are some american racing 15" rims so I have limited space to work with. Hell I can barely fit a socket in to get the regular lugs off.

So now what????

Return it to the owner or sell it to Car-Max.
haha, just try getting ahold of the manufacturer, you may have to buy a completely new set just to get the key.

Go to any tire shop, they'll have one I bet. When I got new tires they had a whole shelf full of different ones.

My friend hammered a socket on the end and took them off... ruined 4 sockets though...

Re: keyed lugnuts?

I had these sweet JDM keyed lugs that used this 8 pointed "allen" type key. It turns out that a 3/8'' extension fit PERFECTLY into 4 of the splines. It actually worked better than the original key. A bit off topic but interesting.

normally I would use a pipe wrench but these lugs are recessed in the wheel.

The guy at tire warehouse told me I could do that, Only thing is I'm afraid if I don't get the nut centered well enough, the socket might not fit because of limited space with the wheels.

Maybe I will just take it down to tire warehouse when I get the fucker rolling again. let them just try different keys.

PS I think I'm going to ditch the american racing wheels, and put some flat black 15" steelies on this bitch ;)

Re: keyed lugnuts?

You need that magic socket from the infomercial. It has a bunch of spring loaded pins that take shape of any bolt/lugnut.

Re: keyed lugnuts?

There is a shocket that will get that off.. You can get it from one of those tool guys. Maco, snapon. It has spiral teeth on the inside that grip the lock.

Re: keyed lugnuts?

I do this all the time at the shop, take a socket just to small to go over it(impact socket) use a 4lb mini slede and beat the fucker on. then remoce like normal. then u put the socket in the vise and use a air hammer to op the nut out

Re: keyed lugnuts?

go to advance auto, get a universal anti theft lug kit. return after using the keyed socket, saying 'the lugs are the wrong pitch, im returning these' and take the cash, and walk out.

Weld a nut onto the end. I did this recently, worked good.

Man aparently this ---- happens more often than I thought, lol. I guess I'll take a look at the key in a universal set and see if it fits, thos ------- flower patterns are slightly different tho like I said.

dunno if your being sarcastic or not but i had one of those (think it was a gator grip) and it actually worked pretty good. once you busted a single piston in the stack you were fucked though cause they twist against each other

Ya! Gator Grip that's the one.

I have a gator grip, the ---- is pretty weak. I'd bet using it on a lugnut would break it :-\
