Kains project rx7 tidbits.

well... the project is coming at a snails pace. the spare engine i got is going to get sent out and rebuilt. so far, from what i heard, stock exhaust ported rx7's ccan reach around 400 and thats their stop gap. so i dont give a fucken ---- at all.

also as some of you might have remembered, i was in an accident. its getting fixed very very very slowly. i baught a stud welder from habor freight and i will use it eventually. its raining too much and its too cold. so imma put off the actual work tills pring time.

so on to this post. its a small developement in the life of me turboing my car. yes turboing. i decided this rout because.. well.... i dont like a 1500 rpm idle and have to double clutch like a granny to get it of the line when im driving to work. im talking about porting. so i opted for turbo instead. so meh, here are the pics.

http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/7264/kif04147rv.jpg

other than that, you can ell i got the stock turbo setup for a turbo rx7. so imma work with that. even though i will be runing low boost for a lil bit, i will still have tons of low end because i will be using higher compression rotors. so yeah.

thats cus its ------- huge, and its a twin scroll.

o btw i forgot to list what i got.

upper and lower intake manifolds. all complete.
fuel rails
4x550cc injectors ( i only need two though )
turbo, and exhaust manifold for 425 shipped. i tor the turbo apart and cleaned it up some. and the flapper on the exhaust manifold for the twin scroll is coming out.

how many miles do those motors usually last? my buddy has one in his carport that hes selling me for 500. he drives a volvo and knows nothing bout cars. it has 180k on the cluster. when i popped the hood it has racing beat strut bar, after market wastegate, hks boost controller, 5spoke 3 piece work rims in the trunk, a sparco seat in the trunk, has racing beat exhaust and some sort of suspension that ive never heard of, question is should i be expecting this motor to need a rebuild? its a turbo 2 by the way

that depends. i would buy it if i was you. the car by itself is worth a ---- ton of money. plus, rx7 engines are butter. the can boost a ---- ton if your turbo can make it and if you provide enough fuel. but as i said, i would get it if i was you.

what does removing the flapper for the twin port do? quicker or slower spool time? what's the purpose of doing this.

looks good kain, I never thought I would see the day that you ungayed your rx7. Whey did you send your mill out for a rebuild? I thought from your last thread you were doing it?

Re: Kains project rx7 tidbits.

i dont see why you got the intake, are you going to use na rotors in t2 housings? thats the only way that intake will bolt up. If your planning on just putting the turbo manifold on an na motor yout going to need a spacer that pushes the turbo from the block, and possibally a notch in the frame

thats the plan. plus, the porting on the na manoifolds sucks. so yeah, ill use the turbo end irons and intermediate.

or my other rout im tossing around in my head right now is .. a .. well... a itb setup, with the turbo and stand alone, but thats a lil more money then what i wanna deal with.

How far along is the body work? Get that quarter fixed yet?

Re: Kains project rx7 tidbits.

well... i got the new door on and painted flat white. i also did the front fender cus that had a minute dent in the front tip. i hated that dent cus it was soo obvious. so i went ahead and ghetto fixed that. i mean its not perfect, but for a 2 hours fix it job, and to the untrained eye, it looks damn good.

Re: Kains project rx7 tidbits.

well... after doing some reaserching and some asking, i find out, that, dun dun dun. my turbo unit uses to4 parts. so that means basically most any t04 part can be fitted. boy o boy am i gonna have some fun with this.

and after thinking about it, my poopy 300 whp is kinda lame. i might aswell go the full way and do a t2 tranny swap, and boost the fucker to 400 whp.

im asking why tho, what does it improve besides you saying its restrictive. does it improve spool time? smoother boost? does it have to be removed or can the flap jus be left open?

the tiwn scroll imporves spool times, @ idle to low boost one side is closed on the turbine inlet to spool the turbo faster. @ higher rpm/boost it opens boths sides of the turbin housing so it wont restrick the exhaust flow. This is only in s4 T2's cause the s5 T2's have a better designed exhaust side wheel to help spool times
