just saved a bunch of money on my car insura...i mean build...kinda long post

so im in the process of dropping a Z6 in my CRX and one of the items i needed to buy was a distributor, so i looked around and couldnt find anything under $200 and i would need a core too which i didnt have
so i looked and looked then i found one and the dude that had it said its only good for a core cause i screwed it up and ill sell it for $15, so i said ok and sent him a check for $25 (shipping)

get the dist and asess the damage

one of the bolts for the cap is broken off and would need to be filed down, punched, drilled and tapped, not terrible to fix but time consuming and a pain

biggest problem the bolt holding the rotor button on is stripped, possibly cross threaded and stuck threaded about halfway in, i cant leave it because it hits the piece inside the distributor and the rotor is about as green as a leprechauns hat
so i mess with the bolt in the rotor for a little while with a few different screwdrivers and it just strips worse so i decide its definitely only good as a core

fast forward to today and i decide well if i just plan to use it as a core then what do i have to lose
go out to the garage break out the impact driver and try one bit, still slips so i grab a pointier one and pound on it, one clean hit and i unscrew it by hand, didnt appear to be cross threaded or anything so i decide to try the cap bolt, get out the files and a punch and my brand new set of dewalt cobalt drill bits start filing away then i decide i may be able to drill from the bottom since it will already be flat but the drill wont work from there because of the mounting tab but wait
go over to the shelf and grab the 90* drill and it fits like a glove, drill it out easy and then grab the 5mm x .80 tap and tap out all four bolts
clean up the cap with a scotch brite pad and then get a rotor button that comes with the screw and 3 5mm x .80 x 20 bolts to hold the cap on since they were missing
only thing missing now is the coil to cap spring but i have an assortment of them

total cost about $33 as opposed to over $200

if for some reason it doesnt work then the $33 i spent is way less then the core charge but im confident it will work

holy crap thats long
