Also, engineering classes are nothing like any other liberal arts classes. You sit in class for an hour or two, take notes, leave. Your first two years of school you will be learning about stuff that has been in practice for a very long time. I wouldn't worry to much about the interjection of your professors opinions as they are engineers too and engineers are generally moderate individuals.
As for your idea of double majoring, I really hope you like it there as you will be spending 5-6 years there easily. Typically engineering degrees require around 135 credits vs standard liberal arts majors require 100-120. You have to pack in a good amount of extra work and unless you enjoy killing yourself, it will take you longer than the standard 4 years. Most engineering students just take the 5 years as they know it doesn't make a difference because they have job security. I might have went to UMD if they didn't feel like being dicks and not accept any of my transfer credits. ---- them if they think I'm redoing all of my core classes.
Also to the kid who thinks college is a big ---- fest. What world do you live in? I go to bed at a normal time, drink a normal amount, and rarely have to work my *** off in classes. I'm a 3rd year Civil engineering student so I've taken the tough classes. 100-200 level engineering classes=hell. 300-400 level engineering classes are significantly easier.

No im going to major in civil with a minor in mechanical. no double majors. Just plan on getting a bachelors and then if i need it to move up or whatever ill come back for my masters. Only if i absolutely need it though.
Inquisition: Anything else you could tell me or recommend as an engineering student? thanks for all the info.
Yeah ill be partying a lil, but im an athlete so 1.) i dont drink as much as most of my freinds 2.) no smoke ever enters my body 3.) ill be in the athletic dorms or in my own apartment most likely. So ill be slightly more low key.
im looking for apartments/houses down there so i can bring my car down and dont have to bum rides home whenever i need to come home. the campus is an hour away from my rents house, which isn't bad. But if you live on campus you cant have a car first year. I need my car there. although they might make an exception cause im an athlete. dunno

The best suggestion I can give to engineering students is learn what you need to do to get the grades you want. I like to hover in the 3.0-3.2 GPA range. I know what it takes for me to get those grades. In calculus classes it took me spending a couple hours a week doing problems to have success while in physic classes I could figure out how to do the problems very easily. I also suggest taking classes you are weak in at the local community college over the summer. It is alot easier to take 15 credits a semester and then take that other 6-8 credits over the summer to get that 18 credit a semester average. It costs a little extra money, but its the way to go if you don't like to always be stress about school. Also community college classes are smaller and "easier". The subject manner is almost exactly the same but the tests are generally easier. Classes like chemistry and calc are way better at the local community college. One last suggestion is to get to know your dean in your department. I don't even know our dean but I had some problems scheduling classes and they took care of me. Engineering makes a school look good. Your womens studies and other bullshit majors don't matter. People care about engineering and colleges generally take care of their engineering students.
