Just checkin in... few pics, vids, carnage included

Just floating through the forum, haven't been here in a while.

The cavalier was doing quite well up until a couple months ago. Finished the header/exhaust, smaller pulley etc. Went to the JCO bash in Canada and had a mishap.

With a 3.0 pulley and the exhaust I was running 13.9/14.0's at 101.6 Installed the 2.8 pulley (14-15psi) and ran:

Made three passes with terrible 60 fts on street tires: 14.0@104.22 13.9@104.88 and the last one.... 13.9@

I wonder what that last pass would have been... threw a rod at the 1k ft mark 13.9 coasting to 94mph
That was a fun tow from Canada to Michigan :( DOH!

I didn't have time to build an engine for it so I threw another stocker in and reverted back to the 3.0 pulley. Same setup I used to run 13.9's with I can only muster 14.5@98.7 I need to figure out whats up but this motor is "the suck"

Well I did manage to acquire a video of the car with the 2.8 pulley while it was alive, car was really starting to feel good.

Oh and guys, if you recall there used to be no tuning software for jbody cars. HP tuners currently has something available. I've been using it for a lil while, decent program. No wiring and control over fuel/timing maps, rev limiters, speed gov, fan on and off points etc. Huge improvement over my emanage which is now doing nothing.

When browsing the forum it's amusing, I see only a few names I recogonize, so most probably have no idea who I am.
Hope all is going well in the HMT world...

Sunfire was sold with the bad motor....

I purchased another engine from a local yard for $650 Also upgraded to a spec S3+ clutch and a fidanza lightened flywheel. Which is also why I'm upset it's slower because it should be better off at this point.

I still have the old head (which is in good shape) I'm hoping to build an engine for it this winter.

Sure there isn't? What about Megasquirt I/II?

Also 2.3 or 2.4 oiling system?

That's pretty cool man! I don't care for cavis too much but I like your car. I like the older v6 3.1l but I don't know how strong they are.

Nothing else is "plug and play" The megasquirt takes complete control over the fuel. The stock computer still believes it's sending an injector sigal when it's not.

With Hp tuners you can modify the existing fuel maps and re-write the data on the stock computer. You can turn off any CEL's, datalog etc. I just wish they had as many options on the progam as they do for other cars like the Fbodys.

My cav has the 2.2 ecotec..... so no need to do the 2.3 oilpump swap

*now

that s/c sounds killer. that exhaust sounds like ---- though man that was more raspy than i expected. not too loud far away though

Re: Just checkin in... few pics, vids, carnage included

The exhaust has been changed, it's much quieter now. I went from a magnaflow straight through muffler to a dynomax super turbo. It's less rapsy, queiter and you can hear the S/C even more.

As for what else I'm doing... not sure yet. Most likely head work, cams, bigger TB and a really really small S/C pulley

OG spotted.
If the new motor feels shitty on the lower boost pulley, Id swap it back for more boost. O0

I have thought about putting the smaller pulley on, but I'd rather find the real issue. Maybe the cams are off time, I've seen eco's off one tooth without any failures excluding a loss in performance.

As for you buttsex, I've seen eco's take a lot more hp than mine has before it blew. Mine was most likely due to fatigue. I've driven this car hard from day one. It does open track days, autoX, drag racing and worst of all my daily driving habits. I'm actually suprised it held up as long as it did.

I was reading about Hpt for my uncles sunflower, but I couldn't figure out if you can modify stock programs to account for boost, or if you have to find a program from a car with stock boost. Like did you modify your stock program, or did you need to start with an ss cobalt program that already has boost? He has the older 2.2 before ecotec, I think it's a '99 but I don't think any of them came stock with boost?

you need to modify the kpa parameters and trick the map into seeing 2bar, 3bar, ect
