Default Just about fed up...

Ok, as some of you may know I have been having idle problems w/ my 88 CRX Si w/ d16a6 for the longest time.

Here's the new update.

- No elec load, fully warm idle is good at 900rpm
- no elec load, as warming up idle is sketchy, sometimes bad sometimes good
- Night time load (headligts on) idle is pathetic at 400rpm and ruff as a MO**** F*****!

What do u guys think?

i am almost sure its your alternator. at night time when you have your lights on, do they kind of flicker? also, as soon as you turn your headlights off, your car idles better? i bet you a million billion bucks that its your alternator. take it off and have it tested. i had a similar problem like what you are having. when i pulled it to get it tested, it was only putting out 10 volts. take it to any auto parts store(except autozone), they should have a tester.

on some cars there is a solenoid that steps up the idle to compensate for alternator load. does your car have that?

At idle (400rpm w/ lights on) I tap the gas the headlights get brighter. But they never flicker. My ractive volt guage reads 13.8 volts. The alternator is also only 2 years old.
I am going away this weekend so I might just drop it off somewhere to get checked while im gone.

Yes. the 88-89 4g civic/crx's have an external one. I believe it is built into the underhood fuse box.

Anyone else?

small update...

I noticed another symptom today on the way to work.

With lights on, at a stop light if I lift my foot off the brake pedal completely my idle goes up a few hundred RPM then falls back down to 500 again.

yah i was thinkin about rebuilding it or rebuilding a b16 instead.

this is my daily driver so I want it to be reliable (hense the no turbo). I dont have the coil nor the tools to fix a blown up motor quickly like mr Jeff does :P

Im thinkin d16a6 w/ higher comp.

remember to adjust your idle correctly too or it wont make a damn bit of diffrence and most of the time just adjusting the screw wont help you have to pull the IACV connector, start the car, and then play with the screw.
