Junk Cars and there turbos
i recently brought a tow truck and i junk cars for a living, i been comming across alot of turbo sabbs. i got a 89 sabb 900 right now whith what looks to be a t3. just trying to figure out if there are deccent turbos. (off the sabbs) i am sure there decent because thay are free, lol. i am bout to head out and pull it off now. i junked another 9000 with what looked to be a t25 on it, it would of been too much of a pain to get it off.
i look around the forum and i couldent find any threads with info on the stock turbo off a vovlo 740 wagon. i might have on of those today also i am going to try to use the sabb t3 on my 4g63/4g64 hybird turbo motor for my galant, hopefullt it will be an upgrade to the 14b |
Re: Junk Cars and there turbos

i got a question about a specific turbo too. how much would turbos from the chrysler 2.2 turbos be? they were on dodges, plymoths and chryslers i think. the ones i would be getting are off of the dodge shelby chargers. |
Re: Junk Cars and there turbos
Same thing as any other T3 .42/.48 in similar condition. Maybe a bit less due to weird flange..

Re: Junk Cars and there turbos
The Saab 900 turbos are the easiest to pull. The 9000 are not that bad either.
Volvos are okay but you have pull the exhaust mani off with it connected. Most of the time there are locking clips also.. The Chrysler ones take a lot of work usually having to pull the head. |
Re: Junk Cars and there turbos
Those chrysler turbo are pretty retarded...stupid ass exhaust inlet flange and unless your running a nonfiltered intake setup the compressor housing has a retarded flange. Pretty much just good for throwing through windshields at the junkyard.

Re: Junk Cars and there turbos
i got a question, kinda off topic, but.....anyways, what kind of turbos do they put on the all-terrain forklifts? its a diesel, and its the ones that extends like 24 ft...

Re: Junk Cars and there turbos
A Chrysler T3 will do fine on a d, its the same as a regular T3 .42/.48 except the flanges.

Re: Junk Cars and there turbos
isent the saab t3 technically bigger than the stock 14b?
anyways, that turbo was a bitch to get off. i swear i hate european cars. i took the down pipe flange off and the little hole for the wastegate has two cracks in it. one crack is pretty big and goes all the way to the fins on the hot side so the turbo is pretty much junk. there is absolutly no shaft play any way, all the fins are good, and the shaft spins freely so i am going to take it apart to see if it can be salvaged. maybe get a new exhause housing for it. |
Re: Junk Cars and there turbos
bitch this hmt weld that up with the mig

Example: on a stock 2.0l 4g, a 16g turbo (small) flows almost 50cfm more at 16psi than a 14b, but is physically the same size, and can spool as quick as stock with tuning. You have a larger displacement engine with more overall airflow. I guess it would be best to decide how much power you want. Cause I kind of doubt you will achieve the numbers you have in your head with that turbo. Other things you should consider are turbine wheel diameter, turbine flow, compressor eff. blah blah blah.... As bad as this sounds, huff around the dsm forums for a bit, see what everyone else is using, and why. *disclaimer* I do not advocate the "building" of dsms whatsoever. I do encourage the use of the 4g61/63/64 in anything that weighs less than 2300lbs. Have a nice day. :P |
Re: Junk Cars and there turbos
thanks for the infor. i have to say that was prob the most informative reply i have recived on hmt. as for welding it, that wont work seeing that the crack is ni the fole with the turbine

Re: Junk Cars and there turbos
I never got a one of those chrysler turbos off as they are nightmares to get off. You can swap like a exhaust housing off of the saab(if it was good and not all cracked up) and bolt it onto the chrysler turbo but then your still left with that compressor housing. I've done that before and it sold easier then with that exhaust housing as it was easier to use with the normal T3 flange. I thought the saab turbo was easier to get out...be it the older saabs with the engine facing like a rwd setup and the normal way.
