Default Jim Hill Racing at Mission BC

Well, I showed up around 3pm Saturday afternoon to help/watch Jim go at his first Novice Race Event. It was pretty interesting..

Jim's new RV, "Minny Winnie" definatly cool,

Well before Jim went to the track, I told him his exhaust was too damn loud, and the officals thought that as well. Something like 97db, and it has to be 95 or lower? So in a hurry (before the race) Jim fabbed up some nice straight pipe & 2in glass pack w/ clamps and some wire to hang it up. He had to do it otherwise they wouldnt let him race! It made enough of a diff, 92-93db's

Here's Jim at Pregrid, he was racing about 10-12 cars. a few crx's some Bmw's and a Grand Prix (racecar).

Jim was doing ------- great! he was holding 2nd postion for awhile, then the BMW got in front. So he was sitting at 3rd. (Grad Prix car was obviously 1st place since it was a V8, looked like something from Nascar)

Last Lap, 2nd to last Turn Jim went off the corse! Brakes failed (all the way to the floor) and stopped manual with the ebrake. He got out and the left rear brake drum was on fire, luckly he had a fire extingisher and put it out.

Got towed back....

Here is Jim (jims Dad) Ron, and his wife Dale, after the Race. Jim thought the rear brake line (rubber) just got hot and caught fire.

I took the rear drums off to see what happened, and the inboard shoe on the LH side was completly GONE!, thus the wheel cylinder piston popped out and was getting fluid by, bleeding on the hot brake drum which then caught fire! Crazy!

This probably would have never happened at any of our other local tracks, but Mission Raceway is very short, and hard on your braking system.

Whats going to change for next time? Well, definatly a rear disc conversion and the EX Front Brake upgrade. Even though Jim didnt finish the race, he still got credit since he completed over 15mins. Not to mention he did pull the 2nd Fastest lap time in his class! (behind the grand prix)

Good job Jim!

Sounds like you had a pretty fun time. That rex looks nice. Whats it got in it? Thats a damn fine exhaust it has on it!!

I've never even seen one of those races before, but I would love to go. I don't think they have anything like that around here. We don't even have a 1/4 track for about 300 miles.

Triton V10's own. Need to lose the air cleaner/intake....sounds good on em.....

Kegs are a perfect fit in the shower too.

I'm impressed. But that shows you how bad drums suck! Booo!

That's a fast all motor rex Dr Boost, it's got a b16 in it and he ran a 13.7 I think it was against a turbo s2000 on a video I saw a while back.

An Interesting fact is that drums lock faster then any equal sized disc.. Too bad we can make like a liquid cooled drum..

Thanks you guys, it was one of the most fun things I have ever done. Wheel to wheel racing was a blast. Four CRX's in the front two rows! The guy running the program I was in races a CRX, so he wanted a small Honda race up front. Very cool.

There is another race at Mission this June 29th/30th. Hope to see you guys there.

Jim
