To the OP, have you ever seen the work involved in changing one? ----.

I actually really like the VR6 as an engine, but damn man. Putting the timing chain at the back of the engine is pretty damn silly.

all stock the vr6 isnt a bad engine. its sucks to work on though. i pretty much hate VW's due to needing tiny hands to do anything. that price sounds kinda high for the milage. are you getting it from some sort of car lot or a private seller. either way the price needs to come down but even more so if it is a private seller

Bought it today. I managed to jew them down to $6000. They weren't sure if the timing chain was done or not. That wasn't the answer that i was looking for so I'll probably take it on in the next couple of months. The car is pretty clean for having the mileage that it does.

Have fun with the lock cylinders... they have a mind of their own. Spark plugs too.. prepare to spend a whole day doing that ----.

why would he pull the trans ? to replace the timing chain
if your trying to say that the trans goes bad you got the wrong model the auto 1.8t has the trans problems not the vr6
