spending money + having a running jet ski = fun on the water

Being cheap + not spending any money = no running jet ski and a pain in the *** trying to figure it out

Check the prop/shaft. Look for zerks to grease.

I've seen a JS 750 that had a grenaded impeller bearing carrier, but that made a loud clunk with a sudden stop while running for a minute or two. The sound alpalwal is describing sounds like to me like the starter Bendix is not engaging and starter makes that whine as it runs away with no load.

Remedy: pull the starter motor. (It's a Beotch, trust me) I can't remember off the top which side it's on but I'm leaning towards under the expansion pipe. Remove the Bendix assembly from the end of the starter by unbolting those two long-*** bolts that go through the commutator plate, through the rotating assembly, and to the Bendix assembly (helical clutch).
During separation of the Bendix, DO NOT pull the brush plate off the commutator (Rotating contact the brushes ride on) It's also a bitch to get them back on the comm.
Clean the helical gear and flyweight with brake cleaner and lube the shyte out of it with -molybdenum grease or marine grease.

If that still doesn't work you may need a new starter.

P.S. Almost forgot, low cranking amperage will cause this condition as well. Verify state-of-charge with a multi-meter connected to the batt. posts.
Statically (Open circuit voltage test) Looking for 12.6 - 13.2 vdc

Dynamically (while cranking) Looking for the voltage to drop no less than about 10.0vdc * Less than that, the cranking amperage is questionable and the batt. needs to be charged, less than 8.0vdc and forget it. No matter the surface charge (open circut voltage reading) the batt isn't holding a good enough charge to dive the starter and get the Bendix clutch to fully engage.

Hope that helped nigglet.
