Jeep guys, need to know this value
::Cliffs:: Old solid jeep, what's it worth.(why does everyone put these last?)
This guy that does some work for me has been having some really bad health problems and can't really even walk right now. He asked me to try to sell his cj-8 scrambler for him. It is an 82 with 136,000 miles and I have no idea of it's value. It seems really solid for an old jeep with only a few rust spots starting to bubble up. Oh yeah, it's got the 151ci 'Iron Duke' GM motor, 5spd manual tranny, and manual lock front hubs. 4wd and all the major ---- all seems to work, and I've been fixing little ---- like int. lights and sensors this past week. Any ideas as to how much it's worth? Any places online that could tell me the value? I'm just trying to gauge a price to ask, and not get the guy ripped off. Any help would be great. Here are a couple of pics: http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...1/ea2c345e.jpg http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...5/ea2c422e.jpg And a shitton more in the album: http://www.imagestation.com/album/pi...?id=2094071850 I'm gonna throw it on the lift and get some pics of underneath tomorrow |
Re: Jeep guys, need to know this value

Dont take any less than $5k for that. Unless you live near Manchester CT. Then we can work something out!

Re: Jeep guys, need to know this value
thanks guys, when i first saw it i was thinking 1500-2000. It was dirty as ---- as he could hardly put 1000 miles on it let alone clean it up. I have to say it shined up pretty well.
Time to be one of those first post for sale people on some jeep forums :3 :P |

Re: Jeep guys, need to know this value
damn that's pretty clean. If you didn't tell me it was an 82 I would think it's newer. Ebay might be a good idea.

Re: Jeep guys, need to know this value
You'll never get $10k with the 151 (8.2:1 compression busting out only 82 hp/ 125 tq, last year used was 83) in there, maybe if it had a real strong 360 you could see $6k out of it.
Post a link on http://www.pirate4x4.com/ - It's the biggest board I've seen for Jeep and other 4x4 stuff, and there is a lot of traffic on the board, Like on here though, almost every real Jeep guy would only use the frame and body, the rest would go. Check for options to make it more rare. Standard is a 15.5 gallon tank, option of 20 was available. Also, I' double check that "5-spd". That wasn't real common, most had the T-4 4 speed, the T-5 was a less seen option from 82-86. With the optional 5 spd, it may have 4.09:1 gearing, which was a nice option for the turd under the hood. For reference, the CJ-8 had a 103.5 inch wheel base, 10 inches longer than the standard CJ-7, and 20 inches longer than the small CJ-5. Interestingly, the CJ-6 had the same wheel base as the CJ8, but with almost 20 inches less body length. The modern day comparison was the Pre-2007 Jeep Unlimited. Good luck with the sale. |
Re: Jeep guys, need to know this value
I take that back, the only upgraded motor available for those years was the 258 I-6... Not a huge upgrade from the little 4 in there.

old 258's and 232's can fit a 4.0 head, same block, needs an oil return made into the head. good for 25-30hp just from head swapping |
Re: Jeep guys, need to know this value

Re: Jeep guys, need to know this value
Jeez, $6k is way more than I'd paid for it. Tell him to stop being so greedy and let it go for that!
|
Re: Jeep guys, need to know this value
I personally could give a ---- what it goes for, but the higher the better. He's pitchin me a couple bucks for my time and hassle :6
But they seem pretty rare, I did get an instant offer for 2500 that he raised to 4000 when I told him no. So they must be worth something. They only made like 27000 of them and most of them rotted away. I agree that there's no way I'd pay that much but I don't want it that bad. If someone else will pay that much, I won't stop em. |
Re: Jeep guys, need to know this value
I used to have a 1978 Dodge Magnum. They only made them in 78 and 79. I would guess they are pretty rare also, but KBB values them at about $600. :1 I wouldn't even pay that much for one, even in mint condition with -0- miles on the clock. :3 I would take the $6k offer before that guy realizes what he's doing. Chances are there are other people who might pay that much or more for a turd, but good luck finding them. :l
