Jeep Cherokee VS LandRover, which one to buy???

So as i am getting older and knocking on the door of 30 i was thinking of buying a rig more age appropriate for myself. Im still gonna keep my sedan but i am currently parting out my red sedan. My choices are the 98-01 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 or the 98-03 Landie Discovery II.

The jeep is cheaper by a few grand and gets better MPG's Plus im pretty sure ( havent checked though ) but im sure it has a solid front axle. The Disco, is well .. a Disco and looks hella better than the jeep. I have been reading that they are unreliable but since i dont know anyone that owns one, well i cant tell for sure wether it was the luck of the owner or just plain neglect on their part. The other thing is that the gas mileage isnt too great either. The price on these bad boys ranges from 5-10k. Same thing with the Jeeps. Another thing that has me on the fence is the cost of fixing anything that breaks on the landie more so than the jeep.

Anyway, your opions are welcome. Gracias HMT!

Landie is a much better built beast but when you need your vehicle service it will kill your wallet and patience. As a Jeep they are a dime a dozen so you can find all the parts you need .

For the Disco the only major complaint I heard while in the parts biz was a problem with the sunroof. I would just check the recall website on both vehicles. Maybe check consumer reports.

The Disco look sooooo much better. ;D

you can buy a spare jeep for $1000, incl engine/trans/axles/body/interior from a junkyard, or spend $1000 on a brake job at the dealership on the landrover

thats what im afraid of, brake jobs costing 500 bucks... ----. not to mention the tires. how hard is it to do routine maintenance ont he Disco's? like brakes, oil, etc....

how hard could it possibly be? oil is oil, brakes is brakes - with a few exceptions.

I'd go with the Jeep. If something breaks, no sweat off your sack.

Stick to the Jeep. Easy to work on, easy to mod, easy on the wallet.

Are you talking about a Cherokee or a Grand Cherokee? I had a Grand Cherokee and it was a heavy pig of a vehicle, but the 4.7 it had moved out pretty well. Sucked up gas pretty bad though. Watch out for the dual zone climate controls. The blend doors ALWAYS fail on those shitty things. Don't be scared of the front axle whine either. They all do it. :P

Jeep IMO.

Now if we were talking FJ40, then it would be a different story.

While the Land Rover would be a bit more of the baller, 30 year old status... I'd go with the jeep because you already have a car.

Once you calculate insurance costs, regular maintenance and repair costs you'll be much better off with the Jeep (cash wise).

Before I got the Vuvla, I was checking out a Land Rover Discovery something. I was noticing that they were going for fairy cheap for how new they were...late 90's early 2000's. Heck I think I even asked about them here and got back alot of comment on the shotty electrical systems they have. Otherwise I'd be rolling in a Disco instead of the 850R. I'd say though for being in LA you probably have a better chance of finding them in yards there instead. I've only seen one Disco from all my time junkyarding. Hell we just finally got our first dealership like three years ago and before that, I don't know where the closest dealership was. I'd still go for the Disco just cause their badass looking.

Oh here's my post from a year or two ago.

yeah, they look bad ass but i think i have decided on a old school 91 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 laredo.

Im thinking a nice lift and a good set of tires and that thing will go anywhere i want it to. Not to mention it gets better gas mileage than the discos. Beisdes, i like old cars anyway. I kinda want to take it on trails so getting the Disco would hurt me if it ever broke down doing trails. ---- that!
