jdm engine

all over the internet i see jdm engines for sale. it seems they all have between 30 and 45k on them. why are all these engine being taken out of j-spec cars and sold to the US?

its like emissions over here. in japan at 35-45k they usually replace the whole engine! Thats why there are so many of them. For some reason they dont use the engine longer, they just put a whole new one in!

I think it's like a tax. If you have your motor over a certain mileage, say your registration gets higher and higher......

In order to support the japanese domestic car sales they tax cars more as they get older.. It's often cheaper to buy/lease a new car rather then pay on your old one.. this translates into extremely cheap used cars.. If you go to a country that is RHD such as some of the former british colonies you'll see nothing but used cars shipped from japan..

Yup, thats what my exchange students tell me. They never see older cars driving around. Cheaper to keep buying new ones. Good thing for us, steady supply of engines :)

Also the fact that they have such strict and high emissions laws over there. It's not worth to keep them around. Taxes are extremely high on older cars, so its cheaper to salavage them.

Funny. They can build the most reliable vehicles, but they have to get rid of them after 30k miles. Makes me wonder about the engines we are getting from them... they know they have to get rid of them, so they probably rag them out real hard.

I dont know about that. Ive heard they drive their vehicles considerably less than we do. Also I heard it was the climate over there, they dont last more than 10 years. (rust)

Wow, did not know about those japanese rules.

Can tell you guys one thing though, over here (the Netherlands) it's completely the other way round. If cars are older then 25 years, you don't have to pay taxes at all.
